"Flag Day Recordings is proud to present the new full length album by Tyresta titled "Ordinary Lives"

"Ordinary Lives" is a long form composition, clocking in at just over 33 minutes. Utilizing his modular synthesizer, mellotron, guitar, computer and effects, Nicholas Turner creates a sprawling piece of music that has a breathy, organic pace to it. Percussive, clanging metallic textures weave in and out between orchestral passages reminiscent of early prog and German electronic music.

Many times albums like this may have an overly produced, polished sound, but "Ordinary Lives" has a grittier quality to it that pairs very well with the vintage and industrial nature of some of the sounds produced, which in turn reinforces my interpretation of what the album title represents. A repetitive, mundane, day in and day out, ordinary & mechanical lifestyle.

Don't be mistaken though, none of those things accurately describe the music within this album. The music itself is generative, providing the listener with lots of movement, changes in texture, sound sources and most importantly a hopeful undertone to it all. A reassurance that even an ordinary life is a beautiful life."

This album was born out of a time of frustration and concern for all that was happening in the world at that time. All the pieces were recorded live, the result of multiple improvised sound collages, created over many nights, hunched over tapes and pedals. My intention was that it would be a prayer or meditation for such a time, which I paired with scriptures that resonated with me and the music. For me, songs are monuments - things that I make to mark a moment and remind me of a truth. I hoped that they would mark this time and provide such a service for myself and others.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eWhen I began writing this new album, I realised I was not done with the central passage of ‘Things Are Being Held Together’: “He himself is before all things, and in him all things hold together” (Col 1:17). In a similar manner to that album, I began again to amass tape loops and melodies to mix together during live improvised sessions. Some of the pieces here were written on their first take (‘Birth Pangs’), others took dozens of attempts and revisions (‘Things Remain Held Together’ and ‘Ζωή’).\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eThematically, the main crux of this album became more and more apropos with every event during its writing: I\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e became a father. Australia was hit by one of the worst bushfire seasons in history, exacerbated by climate change. A global pandemic gripped our world. Racism raised its ugly head again in many countries. Nations continued to become more insular and fearful of each other. And the broken systems of our world continue to cause the very thing they were designed to fix.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eTwenty-Twenty has proved to be the least ‘held together’ year of my life.
