過去にUltraääniやSatatuhattaなどから発表しているフィンランドのアンビエント作家Juho Toivonenが、2025年7月にスウェーデンの実験レーベル／レコード店Discreet Musicからリリースしたレコードです。

"Juho Toivonenの『Lapsikuninkaan Fanfaari』は、親密でありながら広大で、優しくも不気味で、半ば思い出した夢のように過去から現在へと漂ってくるようなファンファーレという、パラドックスの作品である。

ループ、ドローンのようなテクスチャー、スペクトルのようなピアノのメロディーなど、彼の特徴的な世界観は健在だが、以前の作品とは少し異なり、このアルバムではJuho Toivonenはより歌に重点を置いたモードになっている。アルバムはステレオ仕様で、トラック1と4ではライモ・シンネマキがトランペットで参加するなど、より豊かで成熟したパレットを持つ。ヴォーカルが入ることで、過去の作品よりも存在感が増し、幽霊のような断片的な雰囲気に人間的なレイヤーが加わった。Lapsikuninkaan Fanfaariの核心は、時間を引き伸ばし、記憶の移り変わる地形を形作ることである。Juho Toivonenは自分の音楽を、薄れゆくメロディーの記憶のようなもの、つまり、何年も沈黙を体験した後に思い出したときに音楽がどのように聞こえるかというようなものだと語っている。

この音へのぼやけたアプローチは、彼のレコーディングで繰り返し登場するオフ・キー・ワルハイム・ピアノと4トラックテープレコーダーの暖かさによって強調され、アルバムに有機的で手触りの良い質感を与えている。このアルバムは、熱のこもった夢のようなロジックで展開し、ある種の物語でありながら、落ち着くことを拒んでいる。インスピレーションは、子供時代、ぬいぐるみ、橋、愛、憎しみといった個人的なものから多岐にわたる。前2作と同様、Juho Toivonenの創作プロセスは即興に根ざしており、作曲は最終的な形になる前に自然発生的なジェスチャーから生まれる。このリリースは、3部作の第2章となる。シサルーステン・トイストゥヴァ・ユニを経由して誕生と幼少期に始まった自己神話的な旅は、現在、想像の未来と代替現実へと優しく展開している。

Lapsikuninkaan Fanfaariは単なるアルバムではなく、招待状なのだ。「記憶が流動的で、時間が折り重なり、音楽が固定された存在ではなく、かつてあったもの、あるいはあったかもしれないものの亡霊のようなこだまである世界へ足を踏み入れてほしい」。"

"Juho Toivonen’s Lapsikuninkaan Fanfaari is a work of paradox — both intimate and expansive, tender yet eerie, a fanfare that seems to drift from the past into the present like a half-remembered dream.

A slight departure from his previous releases, this album finds Toivonen in a more song-oriented mode, though still deeply embedded in his signature world of loops, droning textures, and spectral piano melodies. The album is in stereo, with a richer, more mature palette that includes trumpet contributions from Raimo Sinnemäki on tracks 1 and 4. The inclusion of vocals — more present here than in past works — adds another human layer to its ghostly, fragmented atmosphere. At its core, Lapsikuninkaan Fanfaari is an exercise in stretching time and shaping memory’s shifting terrain. Toivonen describes his music as something akin to the faded recollection of a melody – what music might sound like when recalled after years of experiencing silence.

This blurred approach to sound is underscored by the use of an off-key Walheim piano, a recurring presence in his recordings, and the warmth of a four-track tape recorder, lending the album its organic, tactile quality. The album unfolds with the logic of a fever dream, a narrative of some sorts, but one that refuses to settle. Inspirations range from personal touchstones — childhood, stuffed animals, bridges, love, and hate. Much like with the previous two long players Toivonen’s creative process remains rooted in improvisation, with compositions emerging from spontaneous gestures before being sculpted into their final form. This release marks the second chapter in a trilogy — a self-mythological journey that begun in birth and early childhood via Sisarusten Toistuva Uni, and now unfolds tenderly into imagined futures and alternative realities.

Lapsikuninkaan Fanfaari is not just an album but an invitation — to step into a world where memory is fluid, where time folds in on itself, and where music is less a fixed entity than a ghostly echo of what once was, or what could have been."
