カナダ・モントリオールのアンビエント作家Élément Kuudaが、2026年2月に自身が運営に携わるisohyetから50本限定でリリースしたカセットです。

荒涼とした冬の風景を感化させるアンビエントドローン〜ドローン4曲を収録。DLコード付属。

"『Phase Boundary』の構想は、2025年の冬、モントリオールで記録的な猛吹雪に見舞われた時期に生まれた。雪に閉じ込められることは、屋内に留まり、温かい機材が並ぶスタジオで過ごすには絶好のシチュエーションかもしれないが、クリスチャン aka Élément Kuudaは約束通り、ほぼ毎日セントローレンス川を訪れ、夏の間、ただ座って眺めていたお気に入りのスポットに挨拶をし続けた。こうした散歩の中で、冬特有の静かで独特な響きに影響を受け、フィールドレコーディングのセッションが始まった。冷たい風が運ぶ微かな虚無感や、固体と液体の狭間で葛藤する水の清々しい音を捉えたのだ。このサウンドスケープがアルバムの基盤となり、その後、彼が常用するシンセサイザーやDIYモジュールが加わっていった。その結果生まれたのは、MaluugahnやHarbour of the North Windといった過去の作品の一部を彷彿とさせつつも、よりミニマルで静謐なビジョンの下で紡がれた、明確な輪郭を持つアルバムだ。

1年後、モントリオールに冬が戻り、『Phase Boundary』は完成した。このアルバムを聴くことは、4つの章からなる冬の旅に出るような感覚をもたらす。「越えるべき距離は慎重に地図化され、明確に定義されている（『Isthmus』）。道具（私たちの本能、知識、そして手法）は整列され、険しい道筋をたどるために用いられる（『Compendium』）。やがて私たちは足取りを失い、自己内省的な氷の虚無へと飲み込まれていく（『Inwards』）。そして、より柔らかな風景へと現れ、心身は鍛えられながらも、より軽やかな感覚を覚える（『Sublimation』）。"

"The idea of Phase Boundary started during the intense, record-breaking snowstorms of winter 2025 in Montreal. Being snowed in might create the perfect scenario to stay inside and sit in a studio filled with warm machines, but Christian kept his promise of visiting the St. Lawrence River almost daily, to say hi to his usual sit-and-stare summer spots. During these promenades, the influence of the quiet and peculiar sonority of winter led to sessions of field recording, capturing the subtle void of the cold wind and the crisp sounds of water caught in a struggle between solid and liquid states. This soundscape became the foundation of the album, before his usual arsenal of synthesizers and DIY modules joined in. The result is a well-defined album, echoing some of his previous work on Maluugahn or Harbour of the North Wind, but under a somewhat more minimalistic, quieter vision.

A year later, winter is back in Montreal, Phase Boundary is complete, and listening to it can feel like embarking on a four-chapter winter travel. The distance to cross is carefully mapped and well defined (Isthmus) / the tools (our instinct, knowledge, and methods) are lined up and used to follow the arduous path (Compendium) / until we lose our steps, absorbed into a self-reflexive icy void (Inwards), before emerging in softer landscapes, hardened but feeling lighter (Sublimation)."
