I did not expect the global pandemic in 2020 when I had originally put the record out as a digital only release. I did not predict that one day I would re-release it physically. I did not know that I would ever develop an interest in photography until I got a film camera on a whim in April of 2023. I did not have a particular interest in cars, really. I took an abstract photo of a car hood in black and white after someone suggested I start with simple images. So, I started to make a collection. I walk around a lot because I don't have a car but cars are everywhere. They are so ubiquitous that they blend in with the background noise of the rest of New York City. They are easy to avoid or ignore, and at best, an inconvenience while jaywalking.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eMusic gave me the ability to listen closely and to be present in sound. I often feel like whatever I am working on will be the final version of some idea I have and I am usually wrong. I always feel like I am at the end of some line when I finish a project and as time goes on it is easier to see it as a developing process. I had also shared some local community events with Luke, including a home concert where Luke did a beautiful hammered dulcimer set. I have been a fan of Luke’s evolving Holobody project for sometime now.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eI documented a series of warm and textured acoustic guitar recordings that I wanted to share with another musician who could work them into a series of newly imagined works. I felt super lucky that Luke was into that, a true community arts collaboration. I tend to think of music visually and the use of a guitar, microphone and the audio experience of background room noise\/field recordings have a very literal, stiff, relatable and concrete character to me. When playing around with if and how I would layer recordings with the guitar I became drawn to the idea of bringing in elements from, what I saw as, the complete contrast to that literal and relatable sound space. The computer and synth processing felt like it came in from another universe and filled in the rough cracks of the songs, like a tide rising and filling up the space between dry stones. I then also started to consider how something like the guitar could transition from one space to the other through performance choices and maybe how the imaginary sound world could become more real through production choices. So this became an aesthetic direction which also then led to considerations of how those elements were going to tell the larger story of the EP. When using these elements together, I didn't want to tell a linear story of one element just transitioning into the other as I felt that something cyclical was somehow more true to the relationship between tangible and ethereal things. I tend to think of music visually and the use of a guitar, microphone and the audio experience of background room noise\/field recordings have a very literal, stiff, relatable and concrete character to me. When playing around with if and how I would layer recordings with the guitar I became drawn to the idea of bringing in elements from, what I saw as, the complete contrast to that literal and relatable sound space. The computer and synth processing felt like it came in from another universe and filled in the rough cracks of the songs, like a tide rising and filling up the space between dry stones. I then also started to consider how something like the guitar could transition from one space to the other through performance choices and maybe how the imaginary sound world could become more real through production choices. So this became an aesthetic direction which also then led to considerations of how those elements were going to tell the larger story of the EP. When using these elements together, I didn't want to tell a linear story of one element just transitioning into the other as I felt that something cyclical was somehow more true to the relationship between tangible and ethereal things.
