"In her book The Minor Gesture, Erin Manning writes in introduction, "In its movement, the minor gesture creates places of dissonance, stages disruptions that open experience to new modes of expression." Free music, in its propensity to abrogate boundaries and shackles, can resonate with this definition of minor gesture. In their singular movements, they impose themselves as the infinite and tiny event of an alternative on the verge of blossoming.

The Leipzig duo Dimer is composed of Fabian Adams on saxophone and Jan-Einar Groh on drums. On this album, each track is built from succinct elements. Whether it is melody, timbre or rhythm, each one is introduced with care and then blossoms in the long run. The first piece IV expands in duration, a dizzying theme that propels itself towards a salutary climax.

On the other hand, saxophone and drums echo with the modular synth in a singular maelstrom of timbres. The presence of the latter in the background gives birth to deceptive harmonies that could be similar to imaginary acoustic environments. In horG X and Free V, the modular becomes the bass appendage of a mutant saxophone, while in Gap, it transforms itself into an icy breath that carries the listener to new reversals.

Halfway between the free ritornellos of Fire! and the hypnotic improvisations of Oren Ambarchi, the album is part of this free jazz movement that makes the listener lose his balance without abandoning him. From musical micro-events, Dimer builds a familiar base that once consolidated can be distorted, atomized and/or transcended. "
