VC was Voltage Controlled referring to the industrial or drum machine (eventually the TR-808) and SR for Silent Regions which was the more spacy\/ambient side (Klaus, Cluster, TD, Eno etc.). I met Dave Palmer after he moved in the house behind me and he was carrying a load of LPs. Of course I had to see what they were and they were exactly the type of music I listened to. He told me that he had a friend who had an ARP-2600 and I was immediately interested in meeting him. Dave and all of his friends went to a different high school than me and they all were in the program called XP. It was a group of very creative people into computers, art and music. They were also very exclusive. I jammed with several of them doing basically free jazz and I banged on piano (I have no musical training) and I guess I passed the test.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA year later I purchased my first synth (EML-200) and more freak outs and recording ensued but I was getting more interested in going the route of melodic space music and John Vignola, who owned the ARP did as well. Before I got my EML, I also bought an old Farfisa console organ which I began bringing to the impromptu sessions and started playing minor chords. Another member of the collective worked at Wurlitzer Organ so he would \"gift\" us with various effects and keys, including an EchoPlex and phase shifter.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe Summer of 1979 sessions were John, Dave and me as we got together in Dave's basement, usually around midnight, and would play into one track of the reel to reel 4 track which Dave had just bought with all of us going through the Echoplex and phase shifter (we had no mixer). Most of the time I was on the floor, John was seated at a table, and Dave was playing the Farfisa looking at the wall. More recordings from this period can be found on Mushroom Music. In late 1979, Emmons and Randy would become more a part of the recording\/jam sessions and the five of us would be doing live performances together for the next couple of years with others contributing as well occasionally. We finally got a mixer thanks to another former XP alumnus named Moe Wood. He worked at a place that rented audio visual equipment and he \"borrowed” a sixteen track mixer for us. At this time we also purchased two Korg MS-20s and we got into a very creative period of recording.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eIn late 1981 we got a Roland TR-808 and that ended a lot of the spontaneous feeling to our music, in my opinion, and I eventually left the group in Late 1982 to pursue my own ideas and make a recording, which eventually resulted in Katha Visions.
