Text excerpt from the artist:

"When I got this offer from ato.archives, I was just thinking of releasing a solo shakuhachi album. Since the label name “ato” has a meaning of “trace”, I decided to record solely traditional pieces for this album. Below I will explain about each piece and shakuhachi that I played. I crafted all the shakuhachi myself in the style known as “jinashi-shakuhachi,” which preserves the natural shape of bamboo to allow you to savor the rich taste and vibrant tone colors. I choose a different shakuhachi according to each piece."

Artist bio from the label:

"Katsuya has had many successful shows not only in Japan but also overseas.
He is also an organic rice farmer. He believes that shakuhach is engaged to nature and its environment, and considers farming as part of his shakuhachi practice.

He is also a translator, illustrator, and documentary filmmaker. In 2015, he released his first documentary film, “Future Is Primitive,” which has screened throughout Japan and overseas, including the UK, Croatia, and China. Now DVDs and books of the film are available. He is also a member of Seppuku Pistols since 2012."
