Indeed, Lin burned out of music school and nearly quit music entirely several years ago. This album is their first attempt at ‘de-formalizing’ their practice, abandoning the rules and values of the so-called professional music world in an effort to bring the work back to something perhaps more personal. It also represents Lin’s efforts at engaging with their Chinese heritage via esoteric taoism, buddhism, and eastern spirituality, albeit with a few broad flourishes from their ongoing\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e interest in occult studies, ceremonial magic, and western esotericism worming their way into the mix.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThere is always more going on under the surface, however.
