That record brought together sounds, images, and texts by Christina Vantzou, Christophe Piette, Jan Matthé, and Lieven Martens; paying tribute to Hoeilaart’s historic glasshouse table grape cultivation.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eToday, we are excited to present our second collaborative project, this time centered around the local nature reserve Doode Bemde: a mosaic landscape of small fields, poplar groves, marsh forests, meadows, reed beds, ponds, and narrow waterways. Over the course of a year, composer and musician Roxane Métayer travelled monthly from Brussels to this habitat. Using a camera and field recording setup, each visit expanded an archive of sounds and images that gradually evolved into both a video work and a musical composition. An entire year unfolds as a cycle in which the landscape slowly freezes, then gradually returns to life.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eLike frogs moving beneath the water or insects hidden in the grass, the sounds on this album seem calm on the surface, yet are in constant motion by subtle activity. At the centre of the work is Roxane’s intricate violin playing, in conversation with the reserve itself: grasshoppers, bumblebees, chiffchaffs\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e, blackbirds, frogs, and the mechanical waves of passing trains. During the second part of the album, the singular voice of Katya Shirshkova enters the scene.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe CD includes a 32-page booklet featuring a poem by Sara Eelen. Sara is a poet, activist, and member of the Klimaatdichters, a collective of Belgian and Dutch poets advocating for climate justice. Thanks to them, the privileged can stay tucked in their private spaces. Interaction between the two groups - the privileged and the brand ambassadors - is mostly kept to the bare minimum. And sparse communications are often driven by annoyances - “my Coke is warm because you kept it too close to the French Fries.” And on the streets the general public dis-approaches the brand ambassadors with pity. We tell our peers: “That’s not a good job,” and “stay away from the Sharing Economy.” Because, you know, in our capitalistic dollhouse we all stand our grounds and play our parts\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e wholeheartedly.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDuring his shifts for Takeaway, Gavin recorded location sounds on his phone at fast food restaurants while waiting on the orders he had to pick up and deliver. Geissler writes about her job at Amazon in Leipzig. Because her writing and freelance work did not pay the bills any longer, she was forced towards this underprivileged shadow-world of unwanted jobs. Seizoenarbeid shed a light on freedom in an unfree world. A monument of 'we are all in this, but not together'. Takeaway Loops gives us a similar peak in a world that is at the same time so visible, but then also very veiled for many. A world that we prefer to use, yet that most of us prefer not to see - a world that we don’t like to enter.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eLast year at Harbourland subway station in Kobe, I was mesmerized by the sound design created by Hiroshi Yoshimura. For each part of the subway station he composed a short phrase. While walking trough the station, a full composition grows in your head. The looping melodies guide you trough a microworld. Trough a blue world of commuters, of the homeless, of the lonely, of the fast paced, of the tourist. Gavin creates a similar effect with Takeaway Loops. The tonality somehow corresponds to Yoshimura’s work. Yet instead of being guided trough a building, we are now taken to the after dark. You feel the concrete evening heat of the city. You hear the rain. Stiff fingers during cold winters’ nights. You are alone on the bike, cruising. Your maps app telling you where to go. Their couriers - ehm, brand ambassadors, as the company prefers to call them - dressed in bright orange, they race their bikes around the city. They deliver meals and groceries for all sorts. Thanks to them, the privileged can stay tucked in their private spaces. Interaction between the two groups - the privileged and the brand ambassadors - is mostly kept to the bare minimum. And sparse communications are often driven by annoyances - “my Coke is warm because you kept it too close to the French Fries.” And on the streets the general public dis-approaches the brand ambassadors with pity. We tell our peers: “That’s not a good job,” and “stay away from the Sharing Economy.” Because, you know, in our capitalistic dollhouse we all stand our grounds and play our parts\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e wholeheartedly.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eDuring his shifts for Takeaway, Gavin recorded location sounds on his phone at fast food restaurants while waiting on the orders he had to pick up and deliver. He later moved to the South of France where he became a pioneer in field recording and acoustic ecology. In 2023, the art council of Samsø organized an exhibition and event series with a focus on Viktor, whose works were presented at a number of locations around the island. As part of this, local organization TERRAFORM invited a group of four artists to Agerupgård on the island of Samsø, and to Sound Art Lab - located at Bang \u0026amp; Olufsen’s former research studios in Struer, DK. The artists were challenged to create a new work, with Knud Viktor’s\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e oeuvre and methods in mind as a possible starting point.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe outcome of the residency was presented during a public event at Agerupgård.
