"動きと静止の狭間で、Harrisonは拡大鏡を日常の捉えがたい底流へと傾け、その内なる不完全さと空白を抱擁する。磁気テープの物質性は常に彼のアプローチの核心であったが、ここではそれ自体が言語となる。回転するスプールとヒス音のネガティブスペースが、理解可能性、疲労、距離、意味の表面直下に潜む物語を語る。

「困難な時」
言葉にできないことを語るスケッチ。
灰色の海に走る色の筋。
じっと見つめれば形を帯び始める。
「押し付けられたと感じる時」。
概日リズムのうなり。
日常の恐ろしく温かい蝕み。

Harrisonのぼやけたレンズを通して、直接的な識別を逃れる概念が、深く個人的で、ほぼ日記的な様式で自らを伝える。これらの作品はまた彼の最も繊細な作品群でもある。過去の作品の不可解で乱暴な不条理を超え、より近く、より厳しく、より静かにきらめくものへと至る。まるで光と影の見えない糸で紡がれたかのように。"

"'There Is no Fire in the Lake' is Duncan Harrison's first full length album since 2019.

Hovering between motion and stasis, Harrison tilts his magnifying glass toward the elusive undercurrents of the day-to-day, embracing imperfections and voids within. The physicality of magnetic tape has always been a key component of his approach, but here it becomes a language in itself; the cycling spools and hissing negative space telling tales that lurk just below the surfaces of intelligibility, exhaustion, distance, meaning.

"Times of difficulty."
Sketches that say the unsayable.
Streaks of color in grey sea.
Stare long enough and it begins to take shape.
"Times of feeling put upon."
The circadian whir.
The awful warm gnaw of routine.
The impossibility of finding space to break.
A hint of a streak of sun.
A fleeting embrace.
A moment. A song. A smile.
Too many lives lived in an instant.
Voice. Silence. Hope.
"It’s a case of—"

Through Harrison’s bleary lens, concepts that evade direct identification communicate themselves in deeply personal, almost diaristic fashion. These pieces are also some of his most delicate; moving beyond the baffling, roughshod absurdity of past works into something closer, starker, more calmly glimmering; as if threaded with invisible twines of light and shade."
