"Remotely Togetherは、rewireの2021年オンライン版でリモート・レジデンスを行ったclaire rousay & Morita Vargas 、Maria Chavez & Valentina Magaletti 、KMRUによる新作を紹介します。COVID-19のロックダウンの中、Rewireは世界中の異質なアーティスト同士のコラボレーションを開始し、彼らを遠隔地からつなぎ、オンラインでも孤立した状態でも新しい創造的手法を探求しました。これらのレジデンスのオーディオビジュアル結果は、2021年のフェスティバルのオンライン版で発表されました。このたび、これらのパフォーマンスの一部を新たに編集し、リリースすることになりました。

アンビエント、ノイズ、フィールドレコーディング、実験的サウンドアートの魅力的なミックスで構成されたRemotely Togetherは、北米のパーカッショニスト兼インプロヴァイザーのclaire rousayイとアルゼンチンのボーカリストMorita Vargasのコラボ曲で、草原で足音が響くシーンからスタートします。フィールドレコーディング、日常音、ディープエレクトロニクスをミックスしたrousayのテクスチャーとVargasの幽玄なボーカルが融合し、聴く者を徐々にその神秘的なサウンドワールドに引き込んでいく魅力的な音楽です。

一方、ニューヨークを拠点に活動するターンテーブリストMaria Chavezとイタリアの著名なパーカッショニストValentina Magalettiがコラボレートした「Particle」は、催眠的なテクスチャーと夢のようなパーカッションが特徴で、音が前に進むようで、ゆっくりと豊かで重厚なフリージャズの作品へと展開していきます。

ケニアのサウンドアーティストKMRUは、オンラインレジデンスの期間中、オランダの映像作家Donna Verheijdenとチームを組みました。MicroVerseでは、フィールドレコーディング、魅惑的なノイズ、即興演奏をミックスし、一見穏やかな自然界の音が、ドローンのような人工的なノイズの中に溶け込むような作品に仕上がっているのが印象的です。

ペルー生まれでアムステルダム在住のグラフィックデザイナー、ジョナサン・カストロ・アレホスが『Remotely Together』のアートワークをデザインしています。この作品は、パンデミック発生時にアムステルダムとリマの間で行われた、気づかれない都市の仕草を彫刻的に記録したもので、Rewireのリモートレジデンスで探求された孤立と相互接続の関係をさらに強化するものとなっています。"

"Remotely Together introduces new works by claire rousay & Morita Vargas, Maria Chavez & Valentina Magaletti, and KMRU, all commissioned through remote residencies for Rewire’s 2021 - online edition. In the midst of COVID-19 lockdowns, Rewire initiated these collaborations between disparate artists from all over the world, connecting them remotely to explore new creative practices both online and in isolation. The audiovisual results of these residencies were presented during the online edition of the 2021 festival. Newly edited versions of a selection of these performances have now been compiled for this release.

Featuring an enthralling mix of ambient, noise, field recording, and experimental sound art, the scene of Remotely Together is set by the crunching sounds of footsteps over a grassy environment on atmospheric opener Humo De Margatina Dulce, a collaborative song between North American percussionist and improviser claire rousay and Argentinian vocalist Morita Vargas. rousay’s textural mix of field recordings, everyday sounds, and deep electronics coalesce with Vargas’s ethereal vocals, paving the way for compelling music that gradually draws its listeners deeper into its mysterious soundworld.

Meanwhile, New York–based turntablist Maria Chavez and celebrated Italian percussionist Valentina Magaletti collaborate on Particle, featuring hypnotic textures and dreamlike percussion that seems to sonically propel itself forward, slowly expanding into a rich and layered work of stretched-out free jazz.

During his online residency, Kenyan sound artist KMRU teamed up with Dutch filmmaker Donna Verheijden. MicroVerse showcases his evocative mixing of field recordings, entrancing noise, and improvisation, resulting in a piece where the seemingly gentle sounds of the natural world begin to blend in with the artificial muck of droning noise.

Peruvian-born and Amsterdam-based graphic designer Jonathan Castro Alejos has designed the artwork of Remotely Together. It was thought of as a sculptural documentation of the unnoticed urban gestures between Amsterdam and Lima during the pandemic – further reinforcing the relationship between isolation and interconnectivity explored during the remote residencies of Rewire.

Presented on vinyl and as digital, Remotely Together further solidifies Rewire’s ambition to function as a dedicated platform for the launching and supporting of adventurous and experimental music. Operating as a label that works closely with artists on the releases of original and commissioned music allows new ways of helping and presenting artists outside of the festival and year-round events.

Remotely Together is available Friday 2 June 2023 on LP and digital platforms. The visual counterparts – including Donna Verheijden’s video work for MicroVerse – that originally premiered during the 2021 - online edition of Rewire will be made available via our video channels. "

In this period, there was a growing interest in alternative art, and Richter Band, one of the leading alternative bands operating in the borders between ambient, new age and meditative music, was in its accession. After years of modest gigging in the late 80s, interest in seeing them perform live began to increase and the band started to tour not just the Czech regions but also ventured abroad.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"lightweightBreak\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the same time, Jaroslav Kořán, a fiddlerophone and percussion player, left the group and began to experiment with his own music. With him, he brought a range of musical experience from playing in the alternative rock group, Vyšší Populár, and the ambient outfit, Richter Band, as well as building and playing hand-made instruments. The fidlerophone, a unique instrument assembled using aluminium pots and mounted on sprung stands, formed the characteristic sound of Richter Band when played in unison with the subtle sounds of Pavel Richter’s electric guitar, and would later inspire Jaroslav to experiment in creating his own instruments.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"lightweightBreak\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAlthough he already owned a sampler and played the piano, as a drummer, he was constantly seeking new percussive instruments and sounds, ranging from water glasses and pots to porcelain plates and salad bowls. Concerts were organized in galleries, people listened with interest to emerging bands and new musical directions were followed. In this period, there was a growing interest in alternative art, and Richter Band, one of the leading alternative bands operating in the borders between ambient, new age and meditative music, was in its accession. After years of modest gigging in the late 80s, interest in seeing them perform live began to increase and the band started to tour not just the Czech regions but also ventured abroad.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"lightweightBreak\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAt the same time, Jaroslav Kořán, a fiddlerophone and percussion player, left the group and began to experiment with his own music. With him, he brought a range of musical experience from playing in the alternative rock group, Vyšší Populár, and the ambient outfit, Richter Band, as well as building and playing hand-made instruments. The fidlerophone, a unique instrument assembled using aluminium pots and mounted on sprung stands, formed the characteristic sound of Richter Band when played in unison with the subtle sounds of Pavel Richter’s electric guitar, and would later inspire Jaroslav to experiment in creating his own instruments.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"lightweightBreak\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAlthough he already owned a sampler and played the piano, as a drummer, he was constantly seeking new percussive instruments and sounds, ranging from water glasses and pots to porcelain plates and salad bowls. In the summer of 1990, he experimented with nails hammered into wood in Šumava, a national park in the South Bohemian regions of the Czech Republic, and the first \"Šumava (or village) kalimbas\" were created. Together with his brother Michal, they refined the kalimbas, trying out repetitive melodies on them, which they would then record at home and supplement with loops from a sampler and slowed-down tapes.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan class=\"lightweightBreak\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe newly recorded material, full of rhythms, pre-recorded loops and Michal Kořán's synthesizer, was presented for the first time in public in April 1990 at the Klarisky concert hall in Bratislava. Soon after, Jaroslav met Marek Hanzlík, a guitarist from another Prague-based band, Die Archa, leading to the formation of a new musical trio named Modrá (“Blue”).
