outlines:

"SKI is Damian Kowalczyk's organic improvised solo project redefining club music. His debut album KRE was released on Pointless Geometry in 2023, featuring mutated forms of footwork, dub, techno and bass music. And it is SKI who is the second artist invited by the owner of Outlines to the drumming groove series.

groove 17 begins with edgy, rough and jagged sounds that gradually develop into systematic repetitions that penetrate each other. The foreground is dominated by drums processed by various types of effects generated by Szymon Szwarc, aka swrcfx, with whom Damian Kowalczyk previously collaborated on the KRE album. Groove 17.1 oscillates between long improvised parts flowing smoothly into more structured moments.

The first part of Groove 17.2 is set on a seemingly chaotic tangle of sounds, but in the second segment of the recording the optics change and all the layers are laid down in favour of a looped footwork dynamic. The raw and organic sound of the drums lands right in the centre of the unleashed club machinery originating from Chicago. While in the first recording the club tradition finds an outlet in loose quotations, the groove 17.2 is a classic dancefloor killer.

Damian Kowalczyk and Szymon Szwarc took up the theme of fusion of drums and footwork in an uncompromising way, shifting the weight of composition towards intuition and improvisation. Their music takes on a raw and unpredictable character, reminiscent of the frenetic nature of competing footwork dancers. "
