Right at the same time, my punk band Black Eyes was having our first practices in 20 years, which meant I was re-training my\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e body to scream at top volume and high registers and to lay into my guitar at full force. In those same months, Dripping was forming and ideas were flying for crazy, boundary-pushing lineups. I had just finished writing the meditative composition suite “In Softening Air” and was feeling the call; it was time to let it rip.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eEverything poured into that live set for Headznite, and a new style was born. I’ve been looking for a way to create an enveloping meditative vibe for years—something that could leave a listener transfixed by texture, or that they could just fall asleep to. Basically, lo-fi Lanois, Eno, and Fripp vibes. There’s some Neil Young and the Edge in there too. Immersive stuff. These came to me while experimenting in my studio, and I needed to respond immediately.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eI could basically see the whole plan: Six tracks that blend into each other using only one guitar for rhythm and one for melody, both on the same instrument (except the final lap-steel piece), everything played with my thumb for maximum connection.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eI’d just finished my album Digital Reaction.
