For several months, they had been improvising together regularly, letting the music emerge from free-flowing conversations into sprawling, wordless performances that spanned genre and mood, departing from their more characteristic work as songwriters and composers to convey the types of emotions that transcend language. They thought of R\u0026amp;D as a boundless project that could fill the space of whatever room they found themselves in, responding to whatever feelings arose.
