"ユビキタスなメディア接続によって即座に満足感を得ることができ、競合する関心が絶え間なく押し寄せてくる過飽和のデジタル時代において、私たちは大量の情報をマルチタスクで処理しながら、しばしば即断即決の判断を下しています。技術の進歩は創造的思考を解き放つはずでしたが、この氾濫はかえって私たちの創造性と注意力の低下を招いています。多くの点で、"長編 "音楽という考え方は、今の時代にマッチしていません。テンポの速い社会に対抗して、私たちの音楽は、瞑想と内省のための（聴く）空間、すなわち「ディープ・リスニング」を作り出したいのです。

"In our oversaturated digital age, where ubiquitous media connections enable instant gratification and a continuous flood of competing interests, we often make snap judgments as we multitask through masses of incoming information. Technological advances were supposed to unleash creative thinking, but this deluge has instead led to an erosion of our creativity and attention. In many ways, the idea of a 'long-form' music is unsuitable for and out of phase with our times. In counterbalance to our fast-paced society, with our music we want to create (listening) space and space for contemplation and reflection - 'deep listening’.

The project MAAPALLO, consists of Antti Tolvi (FI) on large orchestral gongs and Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm on self-built synthesizer. With the works, they to set up sonic (electro-acoustic) situations with extremely slow and minimal form development. AT and CSH met during a residency at EMS Elektronmusikstudion in Stockholm, where the material was recorded."

"Antti Tolvi is a self-taught multi-instrumentalist born in Panelia, a small village on the Finnish west coast. Has played more than 200 concerts all over the world including China, Japan and the USA. There are 13 solo records to Antti's name and he has contributed to more than 50 releases as a composer and/or musician.

Christian Skjødt Hasselstrøm is an artist and composer born in Aalborg, Denmark. He lives and works in Copenhagen. Has performed works and exhibited sound installations all over Europe and further in North America and South Asia. Contributes to more than 30 releases and has released four solo records."

Organized by artist Christopher Willes and the collective Public Recordings, the ensemble included artists from dance, theatre, music, and visual arts, all performing together as musicians in a series of open rehearsals at various community spaces in Tkaronto—Toronto.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe project concluded with a final concert of Oliveros’s piece in Council Chambers Toronto City Hall. The local political situation at the time had become unexpectedly tense: in the midst of an election the provincial conservative government redrew ward boundaries and reduced council membership almost in half. The context brought a new resonance to Oliveros’ score, which proposes a self-governing system for group music making. And so the performance took place between empty councillors’ desks, among the\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e spectres of representational politics, in a room where debates and decisions about togetherness have tangible consequences.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eResonance Gathering extends this project into a publication. The LP opens with a new sound poem by IONE (artist and Oliveros’ spouse) that was recorded in their home in Kingston New York in 2021. Part guided meditation, part dream, the fifty one lines of text and silences evoke the passage of time between 1970-2021. Side B\/C\/D share a lush, 45 minute recording of the City Hall performance, captured in a multi-channel format that subtly moves the listener into ghostly spaces throughout the ensemble. The project gathered nineteen interdisciplinary performers (mostly non-musicians) to interpret Oliveros’s score To Valerie Solanas and Marilyn Monroe in Recognition of Their Desperation (1970)—a work for sound and light that was written in response to the anxiety and political unrest of 1968 in America. Organized by artist Christopher Willes and the collective Public Recordings, the ensemble included artists from dance, theatre, music, and visual arts, all performing together as musicians in a series of open rehearsals at various community spaces in Tkaronto—Toronto.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe project concluded with a final concert of Oliveros’s piece in Council Chambers Toronto City Hall. The context brought a new resonance to Oliveros’ score, which proposes a self-governing system for group music making. The two sides of this tape correspond to High Grove's two EPs, each with it's own flavor. Side A provides us with a deeply immersive pool of tape-work and ambience. Each piece gently swells and releases, like a deep breath. The subtle use of guitar and piano on this EP also stands out and helps to create an even more thoughtful album feel.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe B side is of course anything but 'B' material: these pieces are from where the tape gets its title and the reasons are soon made apparent. A miasma builds from warbling loops and fuzzed-out synthesis. The grainy textures and ponderous melodies harken memories of an endless season of cold. By this time, listeners can truly feel how it has been gnawing, but with each gentle note breaking through the dissonance there is a promise of warmer days to come.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eAlthough both Ross and Delecorte each have their own mesmerizing, tape-soaked solo endeavors (Skin and Desolatum, respectively) worthy of much attention, High Grove proves the two are capable of creating something greater than the sums of it's parts. This project is a fully formed organism with its own established composition and this collection serves as a spotlight on a major accomplishment. While the pandemic and live show lull that ensued had put the band on pause for a moment, they returned in full in 2024 much to our delight and have begun playing live again. Originally recorded and released on Sloane Distro in 2019, Gracious Host is proud to re-issue this collection of High Grove's earliest work. The two sides of this tape correspond to High Grove's two EPs, each with it's own flavor. Side A provides us with a deeply immersive pool of tape-work and ambience. Each piece gently swells and releases, like a deep breath. The subtle use of guitar and piano on this EP also stands out and helps to create an even more thoughtful album feel.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe B side is of course anything but 'B' material: these pieces are from where the tape gets its title and the reasons are soon made apparent. A miasma builds from warbling loops and fuzzed-out synthesis. The grainy textures and ponderous melodies harken memories of an endless season of cold. By this time, listeners can truly feel how it has been gnawing, but with each gentle note breaking through the dissonance there is a promise of warmer days to come.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eAlthough both Ross and Delecorte each have their own mesmerizing, tape-soaked solo endeavors (Skin and Desolatum, respectively) worthy of much attention, High Grove proves the two are capable of creating something greater than the sums of it's parts. This project is a fully formed organism with its own established composition and this collection serves as a spotlight on a major accomplishment. While the pandemic and live show lull that ensued had put the band on pause for a moment, they returned in full in 2024 much to our delight and have begun playing live again.
