As a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) between 2019 and a still fresh 2023, she presented in her third year a portfolio that included what we can now listen as \"Clarinet Mood\", the final track on \"Vibrações De Prata\". Her intention was to «study the feeling of listening to music as an environment one inhabits and not as a sound that follows you throughout the day. Walk into, instead of listening to, an ambience». With no previous clarinet training, Xexa explores its palpable sound as a physical doorway to this realm.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eFour other tracks (\"Assim\", \"Nha Dêdê\", \"Fragmented Breath\" and \"Prendes Nh'Alma\") formed part of what she named the 2021 Sound Calendar. Out of a (natural) total of 12 compositions, these four connect with other intimate moments to tell a broader story, one of fragility, «like a flower about to bloom, we can detect first glimpses of colour and form but can't yet divine its final form».\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis sort of imaginative sonic micro-management can also be found on \"Libelula\", where the synth attempts to recreate the\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e beating of a dragonfly's wings. Minute details are a major feature in jewelry, an art Xexa studied in her native Lisbon's António Arroio school. Free spirited as she is, Lisbon is merely a geographical location where she was born, no particular feeling of being Portuguese attached to her position in the world. So far, Xexa's origins in São Tomé and Príncipe and a prolonged stint in London (it feels prolonged, at such a young age) are the two other major environments that form her experience as a human being but also as an artist. As a student at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama (London) between 2019 and a still fresh 2023, she presented in her third year a portfolio that included what we can now listen as \"Clarinet Mood\", the final track on \"Vibrações De Prata\". Her intention was to «study the feeling of listening to music as an environment one inhabits and not as a sound that follows you throughout the day. Walk into, instead of listening to, an ambience». Minute details are a major feature in jewelry, an art Xexa studied in her native Lisbon's António Arroio school. Free spirited as she is, Lisbon is merely a geographical location where she was born, no particular feeling of being Portuguese attached to her position in the world. So far, Xexa's origins in São Tomé and Príncipe and a prolonged stint in London (it feels prolonged, at such a young age) are the two other major environments that form her experience as a human being but also as an artist. Beats are never artificially extended for the dancefloor, there's not a hint of that culture in \"95 MINDJERES\". Closest would be \"cp\", an actual drum tool. Ideas are in motion now. And they fly out during the following \"Mindjeres\", marked by gentle stabs as if counting the steps skyward. Reaction from his peers was typically a laugh, the music was deemed no good for dancefloor use, thus worthless. He payed little attention. His first production crew Casa Louca is well represented in most tracks via the customary anti-theft ID stamp.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eCome 2019 and the still very young producer seems\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e remarkably detached from this period, having lost all the original files stored in a machine that went bust. These were house favourites we've been dreaming about for a long time. From the deadpan tarraxo that is \"123\", stretching an emotional keyboard groove up to 7:10, to an equally mesmerizing 6:24 of chopped guitar and broken beat punctuated by expressive claps (\"[Puto Tito]\"), all the way through the beatless psych mode of \"Melodia Daquelas\", every bit of music in this album is testament to the fierce, uncompromising vision of a bedroom producer learning his way with minimal resources and simultaneously laying down some of the most distinct music we've heard in years.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eComing from Angola to the greater Lisbon area before he could even speak, Tito kept his childhood nick and took inspiration mainly from his older cousin Willicox. His high motivation led to several collaborations and short-lived crews, he was even there during the first stages of RS Produções (check their more recent \"Bagdad Style\" EP). Still standing, a veteran at 19, Tito is very much linked to what's going on and who's going on, from his South Bank home in Segundo Torrão, one of a number of freeform, precarious \"housing estates\" resulting from the massive affluence of immigrants to Lisbon since the mid-1970s. Veiga himself talks about growing up with minimum resources but still happy. That is the memory he retains from being a kid in the ghettos of Amadora, just outside of Lisbon, born to a Cape Verdean father and Portuguese mother. Vocals stashed away in his cell phone come from the animação crew Os Twinni (he joined them for a while). Clipped, repeated and manipulated to convey the very simple feeling of good times. Veiga himself talks about growing up with minimum resources but still happy. That is the memory he retains from being a kid in the ghettos of Amadora, just outside of Lisbon, born to a Cape Verdean father and Portuguese mother.
