The EP presents three original cuts, of which the title track gets things going - a deep set, resonating chord gets things going, which fans out to include additions to the sequence, and before long the breaks come into play, achieving lift-off and welcoming you firmly into the experience. ‘Parallaxing’ really evokes that firm set 90s Techno sound, with a hard-as-nails rhythm section (with hats aplenty) providing a basis for acid lines, swelling backroom chords and gorgeous interplays between synth lines - the way in which this song peaks is utterly glorious. ‘Space Nugz’ takes things down a notch, but keeps things heavy yet delicate. The beat here is cavernous, diving deep down within the strata along with the bass line that keeps proceedings ticking over. The melodic top layer is spacey, drifting between the ethereal and the real, enticing the listener to leave this plane and pursue a new life in another galaxy.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTo round off the experience, there are two remixes from Casa Voyager head OCB, and Bristol-based producer Boulderhead, and they do not disappoint. It's easier to say his sound is grounded in emotional purity than in one singular genre (or indeed a group of genres), as Bakradze prefers to skirt between the lines, picking up and manipulating the frequencies that persist within the electronic stratosphere. His inspiring technical touch is partnered with a joyous exploratory nature, guidance that has seen him put very few feet wrong as he swerves between a multitude of styles and genres. From his now-fabled releases on the legendary Apollo label, through to his deeply thought-provoking LP efforts on Lapsus, along with a number of astonishing EPs on imprints such as Cin Cin, Best Works, Fever AM and more, Bakradze always finds room to involve the\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e listener with his world - so that the two can grow more fond of each other. The bond that Bakradze crafts with his music to the people who come into contact with is undeniable, as his journey caresses the ground and points in so many directions - it's simply a matter of seeing It reach out and surprise us once again. No matter what mood you find yourself in, his music gives as much as it takes, a bountiful relationship that only serves to expand your mind and make you feel like you’ve never felt before.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTo provide a space for Bakradze to bottle his magic should be at the top of the list for many a label, and Oath has looked to do just that with ‘Forget’. The five trackers has the hallmarks of whatever you might define as his ‘classic’ emotive hallmarks, but with plenty of dynamic motifs thrown in for good measure that provide the listener with that sense of progression - not to mention the expertness in his craft, which is evident throughout. ‘Shifting’ kicks things off, with a quietly involving arpeggio providing the basis for the kicks and gorgeous piano leads to come into play, and by the time the bass notes come into play, there is already that engrossing feeling coming to the surface. It's a subtle electro kind of vibe, gentle and swaying but with a hefty dollop of energy that surfaces through the breaks and the swerves. ‘Lake’ continues onwards with another delicate arpeggio getting things going before ascending into a deep, diverse and expansive scape indeed. The energy swerves, grows and rises from top to bottom, ensuring the journey feels like it has no end - the gorgeous key line that lands itself within the higher ends around the mid-way mark seals the deal.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e‘What You Say’ starts in a similar manner, swirling and growing whilst also not giving much away in terms of the tempo - this is smashed as the kicks come in heavy. Whilst the previous efforts displayed a gentler side to proceedings, this cut is all about the bass and the fuzz, filling in the gaps between the ever-shifting rhythmic structure as the dance is guided toward euphoria. ‘Form’ lands next, and this one builds upon the vibrations of the last number and runs off with it. This one creates this dark and dubby atmosphere, one where the dancers are contorted, the emotive elements stripped back which keeps the rhythm in charge, and we are all for it. To wrap things up, we have ‘Broken Wing’, which meanders back into the softly undulating territory of the first couple of numbers. Bakradze brings the arpeggio motif back into view, his soft touch applied also to the drums as they quietly grow into the mix, as the two layers intertwine beautifully and with a true sense of purpose. Its a fitting end to a record that provides so much, an effort that pours over itself to continually find new methods of wowing, and you leave the experience feeling like you have listened to four EPs in one. A truly remarkable statement from one of dance musics most enigmatic producers.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eGacha Bakradze has also looked for a greater meaning in his music, be it in terms of sonics, scope or indeed how everything flows and meanders from one source to the next. This latest EP on Oath is no exception and stands tall as yet another piece of significance to flow from his fingertips. His ability to weave the listener into a world filled with such beauty and rhythm is remarkable, the music eager to envelop and allow you to explore to your heart's content. It creates a bond that is strong from track and by the end, it is unbreakable. It's a subtle electro kind of vibe, gentle and swaying but with a hefty dollop of energy that surfaces through the breaks and the swerves. ‘Lake’ continues onwards with another delicate arpeggio getting things going before ascending into a deep, diverse and expansive scape indeed. The energy swerves, grows and rises from top to bottom, ensuring the journey feels like it has no end - the gorgeous key line that lands itself within the higher ends around the mid-way mark seals the deal.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e‘What You Say’ starts in a similar manner, swirling and growing whilst also not giving much away in terms of the tempo - this is smashed as the kicks come in heavy. Whilst the previous efforts displayed a gentler side to proceedings, this cut is all about the bass and the fuzz, filling in the gaps between the ever-shifting rhythmic structure as the dance is guided toward euphoria. ‘Form’ lands next, and this one builds upon the vibrations of the last number and runs off with it. This one creates this dark and dubby atmosphere, one where the dancers are contorted, the emotive elements stripped back which keeps the rhythm in charge, and we are all for it. To wrap things up, we have ‘Broken Wing’, which meanders back into the softly undulating territory of the first couple of numbers. Bakradze brings the arpeggio motif back into view, his soft touch applied also to the drums as they quietly grow into the mix, as the two layers intertwine beautifully and with a true sense of purpose. Its a fitting end to a record that provides so much, an effort that pours over itself to continually find new methods of wowing, and you leave the experience feeling like you have listened to four EPs in one. All this and more can be found in the expertly curated vibe that is KX9000's 'The Sofa Lamp' EP, the latest perfected atmosphere from Oath sub-label Last Year in Marienbad.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cem\u003eKX9000 is the primary alias of Kerim Ben Mustapha, who for a good while now has been serving up the kinds of Jazz tinged, softly undulating dance-y cuts that expertly nail the orange hues that frequent the finer moments in life, regardless of whether its the hottest dance floor or a fun-fuelled home exercusion. His previous efforts have all impressed, with a finely stuck balance found between rhythm and melodic features. Mustapha's framework picks from a wide range of motifs, all of which touch upon a number of cornerstones within the contemporary electronic melting pot. What comes out of the process is a sound that is elegant, effortless and infectious, cutting through pre-conceived contexts and aligning itself with the mood\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\" data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e that comes from people being together. His previous efforts cover it all - the peak time, the down times and that middle ground that simply gets things going, its dance music that is both emotionally and rhythmically intuitive, and as you dive deeper there is always more to be elaborated on and enjoyed.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e'The Sofa Lamp' is the next serving that Mustapha has come to the surface with, and it has all the hallmarks of his established sound, but with plenty of scopes bolted on that make this a throughly well-rounded and delectable audial experience. The EP spends no time messing about, with the opener 'Sauce Pepe' throwing itself right into the mix, with its engrossing percussive palette doing much to get the vibrations flowing. The bass line adds weight whilst the melodic outlay that develops up top consists of jazz laden chords, snazzy horns and deep set chordal patterns, and its easy to say this will be doing the rounds come summer. 'Locha' arrives next, which features Cosmonection, and this one kicks the tempo up a little bit. The beat swings expertly, providing a basis for a grooving bass line to meander through the bottom ends, all the while sun-kissed chords lap over the top with such feverishness. The layers are collated and managed for maximum effectiveness, with the breaks provided allowing for those bona fide hands-in-the-air moments. 'April', which features man of the moment Tour Maubourg, keeps the rhythmic flavours flowing from the previous effort, with the emotive quality of the chords traveling deep into the neurons. The gorgeous lead line adds a ear worm that will last for days, and with that the key ingredients persist for an inspired dip into the dance. The record is, as always, seeped in dynamic boundary defying moods and breezy, steppin grooves, moving easily from club floors through to sun kissed walks and deep hued evenings. There’s the broken beat masterclasses in the form of ‘Make Up Break Up Bench’ and ‘Let’s Move On Bro’, both of which contain swings that could move mountains and a sombre yet uplifting top layer of keys and flutes which really tie into that sampled feel we know and adore Hauke for. Then there’s the upbeat house numbers, and they really are something – from the fast talking ‘Watch Me Now’, with its gorgeous filtered melodic lines and evocative vocal elements, through to the 90s leaning ‘Forever Me’ with its electronic Sax taking centre stage as we welcome the morning light, through to the title track and its driving wobbles and emphatic piano lines, there is much to be said about the spaces that can be inhabited within and around these tracks. Records that followed, which included ’Tuffa Trummor Med Synt’ (2012), ‘Juno Jam EP’ (2014), ‘Kepler 186f’ (2016), ‘Voxshot’ (2017) and ‘Peace Bird’ (2019), shifted the focus into the clubs, the dusty after-hours settings, the warm after glow which arrives with the morning sun. If their original sound was all about pairing grooves with imaginative and searing hot melodic layers, then the second half of their discography was all about the positive aspects of enveloping the dance in a hypnotic haze.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAs two differing sides to the emotive spectrum, there is plenty here to dive into, and helps to serve us up very nicely indeed to their latest effort, ‘Sunswell’, their first record together in three years. Inkeeping with their most recent efforts, the duo waste no time in bringing forward some truly special vibes, with the title track kicking things off in spectacular fashion. Simmering, engrossing synths start preceedings, before a delightful breakbeat slides into view underneath, with 90s leaning vocal samples fuelling the momentum as we slide onwards and upwards. The additional key work which comes into view around the half way mark ensures that the heart and the soul are both very much fulfilled. ’Taurido Shuffle’ comes next, and this one continues the notions superbly, with a dynamic arpeggio line that merges expertly with the stepper beat that emerges underneath, as all manner of inspired melodics and rhythmic motifs evolve into the track as time passes by. Records that followed, which included ’Tuffa Trummor Med Synt’ (2012), ‘Juno Jam EP’ (2014), ‘Kepler 186f’ (2016), ‘Voxshot’ (2017) and ‘Peace Bird’ (2019), shifted the focus into the clubs, the dusty after-hours settings, the warm after glow which arrives with the morning sun. If their original sound was all about pairing grooves with imaginative and searing hot melodic layers, then the second half of their discography was all about the positive aspects of enveloping the dance in a hypnotic haze.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eAs two differing sides to the emotive spectrum, there is plenty here to dive into, and helps to serve us up very nicely indeed to their latest effort, ‘Sunswell’, their first record together in three years. Inkeeping with their most recent efforts, the duo waste no time in bringing forward some truly special vibes, with the title track kicking things off in spectacular fashion. Simmering, engrossing synths start preceedings, before a delightful breakbeat slides into view underneath, with 90s leaning vocal samples fuelling the momentum as we slide onwards and upwards. The additional key work which comes into view around the half way mark ensures that the heart and the soul are both very much fulfilled. ’Taurido Shuffle’ comes next, and this one continues the notions superbly, with a dynamic arpeggio line that merges expertly with the stepper beat that emerges underneath, as all manner of inspired melodics and rhythmic motifs evolve into the track as time passes by.
