The connection with a landscape is directly related to its sound environment, either from sounds that naturally pre-exist in it, or from sound interventions or music that enters it, creating a dynamic relationship. However, the way of perceiving and understanding a landscape and the possible expression of feelings towards it is also influenced by a number of other factors, among which the environmental conditions play a key role. Taking into account the influence of environmental conditions on the sound and not only the perception of a landscape, we tried to revisit familiar urban landscapes after rainfall in an attempt to observe the change of the sensory framework that took place due to the rain and what this implies (absence of sun , blurry colors, wet surfaces, etc.). The visual identity of familiar landscapes was gradually changing. After several visits we tried to capture these transitions musically by orchestrating compositions for imaginary landscapes, without being there creating the ideal soundtrack for the places which were now\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\" class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e imprinted in our minds. Gradually, the visual stimulus for expressing feelings of a landscape was now replaced by the sound stimulus. Recently, I’ve been reflecting a lot about cells’ lifespan, and how they originate, evolve, transform and eventually die. One of my best friends was diagnosed with metastatic lung cancer months ago. From our perspective, cancer is such a bad thing but life, for sure, is not anthropocentric. It seems to follow its own path, mostly out of our control. Today, thanks to recent studies of epigenetics, we discovered that the environment can alter our DNA. Love can change our DNA, as well as sound. I think of my sound fragments as undifferentiated (or partially differentiated) cells, like stem cells, whose fate is controlled by complex intracellular molecular regulatory networks. I embraced this perspective as a compositional method: proximity, relation, distribution, and interaction determine the behaviour of the sounds like in a biological system. Life is a network, we could simply not exist without plants, fungi and ultimately other humans. Sound offers an extraordinary framework within which to build an intricate system of collisions, overlappings, and movements. It is a way of staying within the complexity permeating our lives. And as life continuously changes, my sound fragments transform, adapting to new contexts, needs, and listeners’ sensitivities. Sounds, like cells, exist as a biological process. We exist as a process. Sound originates from several speakers placed in the space in an eterogenous way, and – in general – from different diffusion points, amplified or not, analog or acoustic, in a non-referential movement. The one and only need is to produce a simple sound-mass, seemingly static but unceasingly evolving through the labour of the musicians.
