"Tape loops and field textures move in and out of focus as we’re invited into a process of discovery, shimmering with aliveness and soothing simplicity. Taking a deep breath, leaning into the world and the wind, Richard (Sun Drawings) finds a voice in this debut cassette, EP 01, writing and recording simultaneously. Discarding only ideas that tie worthiness to technical complexity and discomfort, he leads us into landscapes where we live with mistakes, rather than patching them up. Where everything glows because we are paying attention.

Delay-echoes rise and fall. Piano rings out in a welcoming pendulum, harmonies landing together amongst papery raindrops. Sombre, sodden, surprising. Satisfying. Circles of melody and rhythm never quite meet as guitar is plucked delicately from the air and layers build on the tape machine. Harmonium, cymbals in conversation, a shaker, singing voice, speaking voice, leaves. Even the pages of a book start to sing.

Words are used sparingly, blending together the interior and exterior as branches bend in the wind and a house sighs, its wooden ribs breathing.

Recorded, mixed and mastered at home in Huddersfield on 8-track tape recorder and self-released on an olive green cassette with riso- printed cover, this is music for remembering what happened in the middle. Rather than coming to us as something fixed, it’s like opening the windows, so you can hear a song from next door that continues even when you close them."
