"植物が「歌う」、植物音楽の不思議さを体験しよう。ミュージシャンのNico Georisは、長年にわたってバイオフィードバック楽器を使い、さまざまな植物をアナログ・シンセサイザーに接続し、そのバイオデータに奇妙で実存的にゴージャスな音楽を創造させてきた。

Nico Georisの植物音楽への取り組みは、6年の間に起こったもので、自宅でリラックスするための新鮮なロングフォーム・アンビエントミュージックを見つけたいという単純な願望から始まった。70年代にさかのぼる、植物の電気をMIDIデータに変換する曖昧な技術との偶然の出会いを経て、Nico Georisは自宅の植物を使って無限に進化するアンビエントミュージックを生み出す実験を始めた。「見つからない音楽を探していたとき、植物がアンプになることに気づいた。」と彼は語る。

ここに、人間の頭脳からは生まれない、もうひとつのタイプのアンビエント・ミュージックが出現する機会があった。人間の思考形態を完全に超えて、緑に深く寄り添う音楽。2016年から2022年にかけて、自宅と野生の両方で録音された何百もの植物の歌から抜粋されたPlant Music Vol.1と2は、Nico Georisの植物音楽時代の「ベストヒット」を表している。"

"Shirley Shirley Shirley is Nico Georis' latest release, an otherworldly document of his experiments in plant music. For several years Nico has been using midi technology to connect a variety of flora to analog synthesizers, letting their biodata create music that is unlike anything I have ever heard. The results are strange and breathtaking. Ultimately it's the closest thing I've found to an organic expression of John Cage's notion of indeterminacy. But unlike Cage's music, Shirley is existentially gorgeous. It stands in the same category as music by Laraaji, Roedelius or Steve Roach."
