Album Liner Notes:

"[Flex the Rhythm] was made after Livigesh popped the idea to Avantgarde Vak of making an album for No Slack Records back in July of 2024. Avantgarde Vak agreed and got to work and handed over the tracks of [Flex the Rhythm] all mixed and mastered by early December of 2024. Everything in the album was made with the Akai MPC-60MKii. The opening track “Life 4 Third Eye” was inspired by the first and big snowstorm that hit South Korea in early December of 2024. The eerie sounds of sampled strings, sounds of thunder and snow falling describes the 3 consecutive days of the first heavy snowstorm that hit South Korea in early December of 2024. The first track “Life 4 Third Eye” is a great opening to the album and creates the right and stimulating mood for what is to come next.

Livigesh and his colleagues hold Avantgarde Vak’s status in the Hip-Hop beat scene in high regard and considers him to be one of the few Hip-Hop beat makers that stays true to Hip-Hop’s mindset and culture. [Flex the Rhythm] is an album simple yet complex. Every beat reveals something new at every listen. The album showcases Avantgarde Vak’s ability to turn old records into something completely new and mesmerizing. His signature sound of deep and low frequency beats come through vividly while maintaining the spirit of Hip-Hop through turtablelism and sampling.

Avantgarde Vak is a beat maker, DJ and performer in roughly this order. As a beat maker, Avantgarde Vak traverses time and space in [Flex the Rhythm]. Every sound such as drum sounds, abstract acappella phrases, basslines etc are sampled from his vast record collection. The track listing in the album is like a movie. Each track is a chapter of its own of the storyline. In this movie, Avantgarde Vak is the DJ that sets the mood and VANSERU is the performer who brings all the aspects of the album together."
