日本のサイケバンドタージマハル旅行団オリジナルメンバー永井清治の発掘作品がこの度CDリリースされました。

1979年夏に開催された1週間にわたるイベント「第五列週間！」のポスター復刻版（20%縮刷）が付属する限定版もございます。

以下、レーベル解説です。

永井清治は1969年のタージマハル旅行団結成時のオリジナルメンバーの一人である。タージマハル以後の1970年代後期からはインド音楽に傾倒し、本場でシタールを習得したが、同時期にコンピューターでの音楽制作も始めていた。この作品は交流があった岩手・盛岡在住の即興演奏家ONNYKが保管していた、その当時の作品である。パソコン自体はあったとはいえ、現代の洗練された音楽制作環境とは程遠い状況で作られた30分もの長尺の2曲《ミディアム》と《海》は、彼自身のコンピューター音楽の原点といえるもの。永井氏ほか関係者からの聞き取りを反映したONNYKによるライナーに加え、永井氏も参加した彼の企画のイベントの写真や資料など、それ自体70-80年代実験音楽シーンの一部でもある。

Born in Tokyo in 1948, Nagai studied drums in a music class when he was in junior high school. He opened his eyes to free jazz and improvisation, started an improvisation concert with Tokio Hasegawa in 1967, and played the trumpet as a member of the "Taj Mahal Travelers" in 1969.
After that, Mr. Nagai studied sitar at an music school in India. After he returned to Japan, he performed sitar concerts all over Japan.
He started composing on a computer around 1979, so this time his works will be introducing works at that time. Two pieces were recorded on each side of cassette tape, which are written only as Medium and Sea, are a minimalist, floating sound composed mainly of synthesizer refrains, with ambiguous beginnings and endings. The sound of real waves is added to the Sea. From that time on, he was interested in environmental sounds.
The two works revealed this time are regarded by Mr. Nagai himself as "these are the origin of my synthesizer and computer music." - from liner note by ONNYK

As part of this research, director Aiyun Huang commissioned new works to compliment selected existing repertoire. Zihua Tan wrote “Sorites” to compliment Iannis Xenakis’ “Persephassa” and alcides lanza wrote “mnais\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e mnemes” to compliment his own earlier composition “sensor VI.” In both cases, the composers were asked to use the identical setup and notational system as that of the existing works. By sharing this common DNA, these unique compositions synergistically flow together to form an unusually powerful listening experience.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e“Persephassa” is a classic of the percussion repertoire, for 6 spatialized percussionists surrounding the audience. This, along with Tan’s “Sorites” make for extraordinary listening in surround, with the listener placed in the center of the circular ensemble as acoustic sounds often ricochet or spin around the listener.
