Both artists approached that event with a collection of sounds that were both contemplative and assertive, appreciating the past while looking towards new horizons. In a truly seamless merging of approaches, the organic and sometimes gritty environmental recordings of Kjostad blend effortlessly with Magnetic Coroner’s expert manipulation of different forms of magnetic tape. Calming ambience and open sonic spaces create a deep listening experience that is accentuated by pointed crescendos of more aggressive tones. Recognizable field recording sources twist and morph, trickster-fashion, into new mutations that are then re-routed through various tape machines and electronics until their initial referent is lost. Across three tracks, Kjostad \u0026amp; Magnetic Coroner confront a looming sense of dread that is ultimately transcended in the clear air of a tall, resonating spire; a Sanctuary Against Shadow.
