"Muwieri Xaure（スペイン語ではエウセビオ・ロペスとしても知られる）は、長年にわたるウィシャリカの伝統音楽家であり、サン・アンドレス・コハミアータ州ラ・ラグーナのコミュニティの元リーダーである。ウィシャリタリ族（ウィシャリカの複数形）は、メキシコ北西部のシエラ・マドレ・オクシデンタル山脈の先住民で、15,000年以上前からそこに住んでいる。その間に彼らは豊かな文化的伝統を築き上げ、その中で「ヒクリ」（スペイン語では一般にペヨーテと呼ばれる）は薬として、また精神的な教師として中心的な役割を果たしてきた。この貴重なレコーディングで、Muwieri Xaureは、彼の生まれ故郷であるサン・アンドレス州とサンタ・カタリーナ州の音楽的伝統を統合しつつ、メキシーサやメキシコ文化との関係を表現したオリジナル曲の新しいコレクションを披露してくれる。

多くの先住民文化がそうであるように、近代化と進歩という西洋の建前が、ウィシャリカ族に古くから伝わる慣習を絶滅の危機にさらしている。部族は毎年、先祖代々受け継がれてきた聖地を徒歩で巡礼し、そこでヒクリという植物を使った癒しの儀式を行っている。しかし、大鉱業会社やその他の企業の侵食により、彼らの聖地は私企業に売却され、その資源が搾取されるようになり、巡礼はますます困難なものとなり、彼らの遺産である固有の動植物種も脅かされている。"

Transitory Tapes:

"Muwieri Xaure (also known as Eusebio López in Spanish) is a longstanding traditional Wixárika musician and former leader of the community of La Laguna, San Andrés Cohamiata. The Wixáritari (plural of Wixárika) are indigenous to the Sierra Madre Occidental mountain range in Northwestern Mexico and have existed there for over 15,000 years. In that time they have developed a rich cultural tradition, in which "hikuri" (commonly called peyote in Spanish) plays a central role as a medicine and spiritual teacher. In this rare recording, Muwieri Xaure presents us with a new collection of original songs that unify the musical traditions of his native San Andrés and Santa Catarina while also expressing his relationship with Mextiza and Mexican culture.

Like so many indigenous cultures, the Western constructs of modernity and progress have placed the Wixárika's ancient practices at risk of extinction. Each year, the tribes make monumental pilgrimages on foot to sacred sites that have been passed down through generations of ancestors, where they perform healing rites with the hikuri plant. The encroachment of large mining corporations and other business interests has seen their consecrated lands being sold off to private entities and exploited for their resources, making their pilgrimages increasingly difficult and threatening the endemic plant and animal species with which their heritage is intertwined.

Recently in December of 2020, following Wixárika tradition, Eusebio hosted a three-day ceremony to pass on his leadership position of the La Laguna. He has held this position for the last two years, managing and manifesting many benefits in their community such as public lighting, construction of a tiled roof and a communal kitchen in the police station, and the building of a hydraulic concrete road. Muwieri made this album for you to enjoy this traditional music from his heart and hopes that you will support him in fulfilling the many responsibilities that surrendering his position implies."
