"Based in San Diego, California, Max Devereaux is a guitarist, singer-songwriter, filmmaker, and painter whose work spans country ballads, abstract painting, experimental improvisation, and lo-fi cinema.

His latest release on Tokyo’s Kirigirisu Recordings, Playing Guitar Alone, is a raw and intimate recording of electric and acoustic guitar, confronting solitude and the fragility of existence.

Originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and self-taught, Devereaux pursued art obsessively outside the classroom—through libraries, museums, cinemas, and record shops. Over the years, he has released numerous albums exploring the edges of alt-country, free-jazz, outsider folk, noise, and experimental rock.

In 2024, he toured Japan for the first time and held his debut solo painting exhibition at M.A.P. Gallery in Koenji, Tokyo. The following year, he released a live album on South Korea’s dingn\dents label and the critically acclaimed New Country Classics via the UK’s Gare du Nord Records.

Improvisation and cross-genre, multimedia exploration remain central to his ever-evolving creative practice."
