グレネダ／ジャマイカ／アメリカのマルチ奏者JJJJJerome Ellisが、2025年11月にフランスの実験レーベルShelter PressからリリースしたCDです。 アンビエント・ジャズ6曲を収録。 以下、レーベルによる解説です。 "JJJJJerome Ellisは、沈黙と可能性の狭間に心地よく居場所を見出す。グレナダ・ジャマイカ・アメリカ系の黒人障害者アーティストは、サックス、オルガン、ハンマードダルシマー、電子音、そして自らの声で雰囲気のある音響風景を創り出す。即興は彼らの芸術性の核心であり、しばしば録音の大塊を削り取り、大理石の彫刻家のように作品を顕現させる。この広範で学際的な実践により、JJJJJeromeは録音音楽、ライブ演劇・パフォーマンスアート、作曲、スポークンワードやストーリーテリング、音を取り入れたマルチメディア／ビジュアル作品など、あらゆる媒体や形式に適応できる。 吃音のある人間として生きる中で、口を使って自己表現することは成長過程で困難を伴った。パフォーマンス名「JJJJJerome」を綴る習慣は、最も頻繁に吃音する言葉が自身の名前であるという気づきに由来する。子供の頃に短期間言語療法を受けたものの、中学1年でサックスを手にした瞬間、全てがはまった。「今でもサックスを吹く時は吃るけど、それは違う種類の吃りなんだ」アーティストとしての創造的理念は、音楽を通じた吃りの探求と、それぞれが時間を形作る能力についての考察に集約される。彼らは芸術によって吃りを尊ぶ。 近々リリースされるセカンドアルバム『Vesper Sparrow』（Shelter Press）は、黒人宗教の伝統と継承との結びつきから生まれた作品である。これは、時間というレンズを通して、音楽と音、吃音、そして黒人性の交差点をアーティストが継続的に探求する姿勢の延長線上にある。アルバムは二つの完結した思想で構成され、録音された吃音を軸としている。JJJJJeromeは4部構成の楽曲「Evensong」を、第2部で吃音をフェードアウトさせることで分割し、その間に第3部と第4部（「Vesper Sparrow」と「Black-Throated Sparrow」）を挟み込む。開かれた時間を埋める機会について、彼らは「吃音が構造化の一瞬となる」と説明する。 こうして「中断」はJJJJJeromeの音楽言語に不可欠となる。吃音もグラニュラー合成も時間を中断させ、「その瞬間を複数の方法で体験し、横断し、他者と繋がる道を開く」。アーティストはさらにポップ・プロダクションの要素——インディーロックに影響を受けた電子音の質感や歪み、カリブ音楽やアフリカ系アメリカン音楽に由来するスポークンワード、サンプリング、音響操作——も取り入れている。"...
