『Azania』は、スピリチュアリティ、汎アフリカ主義、自由、愛、儀式、伝統、文化、移住など、バンドメンバーにとって身近なテーマを豊かに掘り下げている。このEPでは、iPhupho L'ka Bikoのユニークな音楽的フュージョンが紹介されており、Qamataのような曲ではジャズとアフリカの土着音楽であるインブマネを融合させ、Singabakhoのような曲ではジャズにゴスペルの影響を吹き込んでいる。この折衷的なアプローチは、バンドサウンドの流動性と多様性を反映し、没入的で魅惑的な音楽の旅を約束する。

" iPhupho L’ka Biko, the highly acclaimed Africanist experimental jazz band, is thrilled to announce the release of their debut EP, ‘Azania’ on vinyl through Canadian record label, We Are Busy Bodies on December 15. Following the success of their two acclaimed singles, ‘Abaphezulu’, released through Brownswood Recordings, and ‘uThixo uKhona’, distributed by Platoon. The band dedicated the year 2022 to recording and producing this eagerly awaited EP, which they self-released earlier this year.

Azania delves into a rich tapestry of themes that are close to the hearts of the band members, including spirituality, Pan Africanism, freedom, love, ritual, tradition, culture, and displacement. The EP showcases iPhupho L’ka Biko's unique musical fusion, blending jazz with indigenous African music of imvumane in tracks like Qamata, and infusing jazz with gospel influences in songs like Singabakho.
