姉妹作『Seasons Turn Like Pages』のマスター音源を基にした実験アンビエント〜ドローン8曲を収録。DLコード付属。

"Saapatoが、自然、記憶、そして時間のサイクルを曲げ、融合させ、調和のとれたスープへと変える2部作の後半となる『& Pages Burn Like Candles』で帰ってきた。このプロジェクトは、『Seasons Turn Like Pages』から始まった。これは、四季を通じてさまざまな生物の発達や旅路における重要な瞬間を摘み取った、儚く有機的な小品集である。

その姉妹作となる本作『& Pages Burn Like Candles』は、それらの楽曲を基に、物理的にも感情的にも全く異なる空間へと変容させている。本作は『Seasons Turn Like Pages』の最終マスター音源と、大幅に加工されたフィールドレコーディングのみを用いて構成されており、元の爽やかで朝を思わせる素材を、薄暗く沼地のような世界へと溶かし込んでいる。馴染みのあるメロディーは、テープの劣化によるノイズ、ループするテクスチャー、再アンプ処理されたステム、そして濃厚なペダル処理の層の下で、遠くの幽霊のように現れる。

『Seasons Turn Like Pages』が時間の流れの速さを振り返る作品であるのに対し、『& Pages Burn Like Candles』はその逆の感覚を探求している。…『Pages Burn…』は、記憶の中に残り、歪み、そして立ち往生してしまう瞬間を呼び起こす。このアルバムの制作過程こそが、このコンセプトの根底にある。メロディの断片はしばしばほぼ停止するほどにスローダウンされ、テープマシンやアンプを繰り返し通過し、細かく切り刻まれて原形を留めないほどに再構成され、不気味な環境テクスチャーへと変貌したフィールドレコーディングと重ね合わされた。メロディーは歪んでドローンへと溶け込み、サウンドスケープは濃厚なドロドロとした塊へと朽ち果て、馴染みのあるパッセージはほんの一瞬だけ姿を現しては、重く唸るような霧の中に消えていく。その結果、まるで沈没船の水浸しの壁越しに、あるいは森の地中深くに埋もれた場所から、最初のレコードを聴いているかのような、親密でありながらも方向感覚を失わせるような感覚が生まれる。"

"Saapato returns with & Pages Burn Like Candles, the second half of a two-part work that bends and blends the cycles of nature, memory, and time into a harmonic soup. The project began with Seasons Turn Like Pages, a collection of fleeting organic vignettes that pluck key moments in the development and journey of different organisms across the seasons.

This companion release, & Pages Burn Like Candles, takes those same compositions and morphs them into an entirely different physical and emotional space. Constructed exclusively from the final masters of Seasons Turn Like Pages and heavily manipulated field recordings, the album melts the original breezy, morning flavored material down into something dusky and swamp-like. Familiar melodies appear as distant ghosts beneath layers of tape degradation, looping textures, re-amped stems, and dense pedal processing.

Where Seasons Turn Like Pages reflects on how quickly time passes, & Pages Burn Like Candles explores the inverse sensation. …Pages Burn… conjures up moments that linger, distort, and become stuck in memory. The processes behind the record’s creation informed this concept: melodic fragments were often slowed to a near halt, passed repeatedly through tape machines and amplifiers, chopped into pieces and reassembled completely disfigured, and layered with field recordings that had been transformed into uncanny environmental textures. Melodies warp and smear into drones, soundscapes decay into a thick goo, and familiar passages surface only briefly before disappearing into a dense, humming fog. The result feels both intimate and disorienting, as if you’re hearing the first record through the waterlogged walls of a sunken ship or buried deep beneath the forest floor.

Together, the two albums function as a complete cycle, one documenting time slipping away, the other dwelling inside its residue. In conversation with each other, they reveal two sides of the same landscape, where one glides through the trees with river-like motion, while the other smolders at the bottom of a marsh. The strange elasticity of time rears its fickle head as Seasons Turn Like Pages & Pages Burn Like Candles."
