Despite a more optimistic sonic palette than much of my work, \"Faces In The Rise\" was made at the height of an extremely turbulent time in my life. I had not yet begun to understand my autism and was deeply insecure about it, with any visible signs of its existence leaving me ashamed and confused. My battles with gender, known only to me at the time, were also kept completely away from the light, but were beginning to take a heavy toll on my health. Feeling far removed from reality and even my own body, I felt extremely isolated and disconnected. In this dark place I found a lot of inner peace and strength in watching the repetitive cycles of the tide, soaking up every sound, every movement, every feeling and, eventually, reconnecting to myself in a way I never had before. Through this album I discovered the importance of repetitive sound in giving space and structure to my autism.
