"In conjunction with long-standing Australian outsider music label and mail order Shame File, Nice Music presents a new full length recording from Clinton Green.

'Relativity/Only' is Green's clearest refinement of the dutiful and curious work he has cultivated over several years in recording his gently automated percussion experiments. Green conjures a celestial zoom view of a very private cosmos, using turntables as a source of movement and various static or suspended instruments and repurposed objects, captured in a softly endless world of binaural ambience. Unable to repeat a single step or rhythm given the mostly hands off methods Green employs within simple physics and gravitational axioms, this pointillist approach to automatic composition almost relegates time or duration to redundancy. Encouraging the listener to either take in the view as a moment's glimpse or to become deeply engrossed in its crevices, Green's work offers as much or as little as the senses care to seek. Perhaps akin to watching a fireplace at night or witnessing ants marching through the grass.

Percussion ephemera recorded this quietly could indeed pass experientially as 'ambient music' at this point, but a rare kind in its strict absence of any electronic signal or sustained tones. And is ambient music dictated by how little it distracts the ear? Surely a misnomer if so. Green's loving supervision of these quietly magical instant compositions splays his work bewitchingly over many worlds of compositional reference; a spectral wonder given only the most skeletal elements do all the talking.

Clinton Green is a writer, researcher and legendary patron of Australian experimental and outsider music, as well as the founder of Shame File Music. He has released numerous solo and collaborative recordings both under his own name and as Undecisive God.

Doors shut, the wind sings, motors whine… a distant murmur comes slowly into focus and then suddenly runs straight at the listener. The impetus for this work was Sprod dealing with his accumulated clutter, using up the debris one last time before he throws it away. Between its first iteration as an 8-channel installation to the current 2-channel distillation, the debris generated by the process has also been folded back into the music. Somehow, the three-dimensional character of the multi-channel installation is preserved on this stereo composition. After several months of not making any new music, I felt it imperative to do SOMETHING, and looked at what I had around me at home:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- An old Tascam 4-track cassette porta-studio\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- Some cheap Walkmans\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- Some cassettes that had been generated over several performances and rehearsals around 2015-16.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI devised a compositional procedure for laying out excerpts from these cassettes on the 4-track tape, including changes of tape speed, panning, tape reversal (by flipping the master cassette), changing tracks, etc. I also included some field recordings of local frog populations, and a recording of record gifted to me by Kerrie Farnsworth, who had found it in a drain in Kiev. Moments of warm beauty also lurk quietly in the marshes of both halves, only briefly emerging when absolutely necessary to avoid wasted impact: a flutter of buzzing drone like a ray of light through the dust, a snatch of familiar innocence amidst bedlam. After several months of not making any new music, I felt it imperative to do SOMETHING, and looked at what I had around me at home:\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- An old Tascam 4-track cassette porta-studio\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- Some cheap Walkmans\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003e- Some cassettes that had been generated over several performances and rehearsals around 2015-16.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cspan\u003eI devised a compositional procedure for laying out excerpts from these cassettes on the 4-track tape, including changes of tape speed, panning, tape reversal (by flipping the master cassette), changing tracks, etc. I also included some field recordings of local frog populations, and a recording of record gifted to me by Kerrie Farnsworth, who had found it in a drain in Kiev. I transferred the results in bulk to digital and slowly edited them down with a more conscious and less-process driven aesthetic driving\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ethe resulting compositions. Moments of warm beauty also lurk quietly in the marshes of both halves, only briefly emerging when absolutely necessary to avoid wasted impact: a flutter of buzzing drone like a ray of light through the dust, a snatch of familiar innocence amidst bedlam.
