過去にDiscrepantなどから発表しているフランスの実験ストレンジビーツ作家The Dead Mauriacsが、2023年2月に東京の実験レーベルCalaxからリリースしたレコードです。以下、レーベルによる解説です。 

The Dead Mauriacs はフランス人アーティスト、Olivier Prieur によるプロジェクトであり、本作品 ”Paravents et miroirs, une cérémonie” は 2017 年に行われたライブ音源を LP として発行した作品になります。
The Dead Mauriacs は自身の音楽を ”Exotica Concrete” と形容しています。本作品においても、彼が日常的に採取したフィールドレコーディング をはじめ、ピアノ、インドのハーモニウム、ヴァイオリン、ウクレレ、ディジュリドゥ、木片、ガラス、紙、金属板等の多様な音の集積物と、1950 年 代に旺盛だった Les Baxter や Arthur Lyman といったミュージシャンやアレンジャーに代表される Exotica 音楽のサンプリングによって組み合わさ れた、全編 40 分の壮大なサウンドコラージュとなっています。
”Exotica は、大衆観光事業や大衆エンターテイメント、大量消費主義にも繋がっています。Arthur Lyman はワイキキで 10 年間で約 30 枚ものレコー ドを制作しています。彼のバンドはアルミ製ジオデシック · ドームの下で演奏し、録音していました。そのドームは、彼らが毎晩演奏していたホテルの オーナーの所有物で、演奏は騒音問題を避けるために夜間に行われていました。この音楽は深く、素朴でありながら全く欠陥のない音楽です。それでいて、 魅惑的な調べを持ちながら知的興味をも掻き立てられます。昨今では簡単に批判される音楽となりましたが、60 年代、70 年代のイタリア映画のように、 それ自体が1つのイマジナリーなのです。”

音楽だけでなく、映像やペインティングといった、幅広く創作活動を行う The Dead Mauriacs 自身によるスケッチを LP のアートワークとして設えま した。製品内部にも全 8 ページにわたる彼へのインタビューとともに、その他のアートワークが添えられています。

"Tokyo-based record label Calax Records will release "Paravents et miroirs, une cérémonie" by The Dead Mauriacs as their fourth release. The Dead Mauriacs is the project of French artist Olivier Prieur, and "Paravents et miroirs, une cérémonie" is a live The soundtrack will be issued as an LP. 

The Dead Mauriacs describe their music as "Exotica Concrete". The Dead Mauriacs' music is composed of field recordings he made on a daily basis, as well as a diverse collection of sounds, including piano, Indian harmonium, violin, ukulele, didgeridoo, pieces of wood, glass, paper, and metal plates. The album is also a spectacular 40-minute sound collage, assembled by sampling Exotica music represented by musicians and arrangers such as Les Baxter and Arthur Lyman, who were active in the 1950s. 

The Dead Mauriacs are not only involved in music, but also in a wide range of other creative endeavors, including video and painting. The Dead Mauriacs also did the artwork"
