"The Butterfly Sanctuary was originally recorded by Mexican artist Luis Pérez (of “En el Ombligo de la Luna” fame, as recently reissued) back in 1989 and released on CD only with a very limited distribution.

The album was recorded using pre Columbian instruments only and aims to recreate the deep and environmental sounds of the jungle, resulting in a hypnotic and ethereal work that could be played next to many ambient records made with the aid of electronic music technology."

You can call it jazz if you like (all four members are graduated jazz musicians) but be ready to stumble over some Dilla, Kraut Rock, Ambient or Dub in the mix.
