From the label:

"Scattered Light’s newest album, Pine, is an introspective and nostalgic dive into the places we can’t always see, but can always feel within us. Following last year’s album, Unfurl (also released with We All Speak In Poems), the passing of his beloved hound, Macc, inspired this eight-song album.

The album clocks in at over 40 minutes, which might seem lengthy, but for Scattered Light, it's on the shorter side - perhaps making it more accessible to newcomers. Pine closes, however, with “Home”, a familiar ten-minute sound bath for those already acquainted with the world of Scattered Light. Although last on the album, it was the first piece of music to emerge after months of being unable to get back into the studio. The song, and album as a whole, is “imbued with touches, fragments, and snippets of memory - of warmth, and of loss,” he explains.

Simply put: this is a beautiful album. Analog, piano-driven and full of field recordings capturing snippets of the everyday (like samples of a 40-year-old music box, and twinkling chimes on the breeze - a gift in memory of Macc). Rather than any given place, the project feels like transmissions from somewhere beyond the physical. A journey inward to that warm and untouchable glow of memories and loved ones past.

The music invites us to look inward, to cherish the fragments of emotion that come from trying to grasp onto a smell, a sensation, a memory that’s fading too fast - the act of trying not to forget. For a little while, Pine makes those distant things feel close again."
