His previous experimental endeavors featured a number of eerie, textural, sample\/loop-based soundscapes that one may find easy to drift into. We see that here again with Electro-Paralysis showcasing York's ability to explore a variety of approaches to sound collage but still curate a specific vision.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eElectro Paralysis leads us into a haunted zone right away with a voice narrating secret passages over organ drones, a disembodied chorus of spirits, and dreamy synth loops. While the careful placement of softer snyths and deliberately paced vocals leads us in one direction, we are quickly thrown a curveball of frantic strings, electronic bursts and tape textures. These abrupt cues keep us as listeners on our toes while also pulling back the sonic curtain for a moment, allowing us to 'see' what's happening on the other side. Just as quickly, we're returned to a near-paranoid state of tense synthesis and psychedelia. At times rhythmic and at others, open-ended and expressive. Bells, birds, pans, eggs(?!), and more are sourced for this lively, flowing journey. While most tapework and sound collage leans heavy on larger sound pairings, ambient tone, and contrasting textures, the Concept Horse is intent to focus our attention on crisp, uncrowded samples. We're wandering this hallway of collected audio but the size of each \"picture\" allows us to keep a moderate pace. For far too long, twentieth-century Dutch electronic music has remained hidden away in dim archives, only occasionally accessible under optimal conditions. Many compositions have not been heard for decades, perhaps after being presented to an audience only once. For this project, the original tapes were carefully traced in basements and archives, including the mysterious work Chronos, which was rediscovered in the collection of the Netherlands Music Institute (NMI). Even close collaborators of De Leeuw were unaware of the existence of Chronos. Another highlight of this release is the radiophonic oratorio Job (1956), which was awarded the Prix Italia radio prize by\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e broadcaster Rai.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe recordings were digitised by experts at the Institute of Sonology and the Instituut voor Beeld en Geluid (Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision). Even close collaborators of De Leeuw were unaware of the existence of Chronos.
