"トルコ人音楽家であり電子音楽作曲家であるIlhan Mimaroğluによって制作された『Tract』は、Mimaroğluが「革命闘争の偉大な詩人」と称した同胞ナジム・ヒクメットに捧げられている。トルコ人歌手トゥライ・ゲルマン（本録音ではトゥリー・サンド名義）の声を駆使し、Mimaroğluはロシア革命期のボルシェビキ流プロパガンダ様式（アジプロップ）による政治的メッセージの音声コラージュを構築した。

テキストはバクーニン、ブレヒト、毛沢東、マルクスらからの「直接引用と意訳」に基づくが、ソ連支持ではなく新左翼的・自由主義的立場を採っている。本作は1972年から1974年にかけてパリとニューヨークで2年間をかけて作曲・録音された。ライナーノーツにはMimaroğluによる作品解説、作曲過程の説明、演奏の背景、そしてヒクメットへの献辞が記されている。"

"Created by Turkish musician and electronic music composer İlhan Mimaroğlu, Tract is dedicated to fellow countryman Nȃzim Hikmet, whom Mimaroğlu regarded “as the greatest poet of the revolutionary struggles.” Utilizing the voice of Turkish singer Tülay German (identified as Tuly Sand on this recording), Mimaroğlu creates an audio collage of political messages in the propaganda style (agitprop) of the Bolsheviks during the Russian Revolution.

Although his text is based on “direct and paraphrased quotations” from Bakunin, Brecht, Mao, Marx, and others, it is not pro-Soviet but rather New Left, pro-freedom. The performance was composed and recorded over a two-year period (1972–1974) in Paris and New York. The liner notes contain Mimaroğlu’s introduction to the work and explanation of the composition process, performance context, and dedication to Hikmet."

The answer is of course, “Infinity???”, but in the case of musician and musicologist Rich Aucoin, the answer might be “43”, the number of tracks he’s now spread out over four seasons of his Synthetic series.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eOver these four releases recorded during a series of visits to the National Music Centre in Calgary and Vintage Synthesizer Museum in Los Angeles from 2020 to 2025, Aucoin has trawled the depths of sonic history to demonstrate the incredible range and depth of what a synthesizer is and what it can be, and the tremendous, malleable impact its presence has had on musical construction, sound and song.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eSeasons 1 through 3 saw famous synths such as Moogs, Rolands and ARPs take the stage, but Season 4 sees Aucoin digging even deeper with inclusions of the rare Buchla 200a Electric Music Box, the E-mu Modular System, an Ondes Martenot and especially the McLeyvier, the latter of which has never before been used in recorded music and of which only a handful exist.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe historic Ondes Martenot, invented in 1928, has an\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e otherworldly, ethereal sound to it, but when dropped into the context of modern 4\/4 electronic music becomes an emotionally transportative soundtrack to the sound of finishing life before it finishes you. This is the power of the synthesizer as an instrument – invented as not just a player of notes but as a maker of maps to our mind, giving tubes for its voice.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eThe rarer McLeyvier synth was a precursor to the more famous CMI Fairlight, invented by a film score producer who turned to science to better extract unique musical ideas from his head. On its titular track here, Aucoin goes absolutely bold, summoning both Air and Moby in showcasing the synth’s capacity for grandeur before slaying the field with a triumphant drum n’ bass finale that is as unexpected as it is delightful.\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003eA record featuring the history of synths is also one that reflects upon the history of modern pop and dance music itself–in addition to Air and Moby throughout we hear the echoes and tones of French filter (Daft Punk, Justice and Jean-Michel Jarre on “Chroma”); the IDM heroes of Warp\/Rephlex (Squarepusher on “E-Mu Pt II” and Plaid on “Ondes”, among others); to the late 70s yellow Italo-horror film soundtracks of Goblin (“Giallo”). Throughout we hear homages to these artists and the role they played in using synths to bring musical dreams to life, and yet also, Aucoin manages to simply deliver an enjoyable and fun record to throw on while going for a drive or dancing in the moonlight.
