Mikhail and his brother have played music together since they were very young eventually forming the band FPRF together in the mid 2000's. Eventually the group split as the members dispersed around Russia, but Evgeny and Mikhail continued to make music, Evgeny under the alias Dyad and Mikhail under the name Misha Sultan (some of you may remember his excellent cassette, Roots, which came out on Hive Mind in 2022).\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eHerandu was born in 2022 during several studio sessions they managed to grab whilst both visiting Siberia. They both quickly realised that together they were making music that didn't quite sound like either of their solo projects but which was influenced by the music of their formative years. He wanted to use an improvisational approach that focussed on presenting ideas with a beauty inherent in their sound, coalescing these into song form. Like many musicians from the region, Hassan built his first instruments himself, and it wasn't until he moved to Casablanca in his teens to find work which was scarce in his local community\u003cspan data-mce-fragment=\"1\" class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e, that he was able to save for his first real banjo.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eSince then Hassan has been active in the Amazigh musical community and has worked with a number of groups, notably Groupe Lbouchart, Imanaren and Etran Tiznit, as well as recording prolifically as a solo artist using Fruity Loops as a home studio. In 2009, Jace Clayton (DJ\/Rupture) stumbled across a CD by Imanaren on a stall in Casablanca medina and this led to a fruitful series of collaborations in 2009 and 2011.\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003e\u003cbr data-mce-fragment=\"1\"\u003eTiddukla (which translates to Friendship) is one of Hassan's numerous group projects and he recorded the album with friends in 2015 and self released it through YouTube due to the lack of music infrastructure in Morocco. Taking the most basic rock formation as its starting point and the logic proposed by the guitar as its driving force, the resulting delicate plots operate as soundscapes of high evocative power, frames of a sort of imaginary song that is up to each listener to complete. However, if the intentionally restricted tone palette tends to reinforce (at least at first) a certain resemblance of idyll, it is interesting to note how - against the more Apollonian strata - we hear thumps generated by small incisions of disorder\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e\u003cem\u003e, ranging from the granular plane of off-beat rhythms to the sudden decompression created by the lush vibraphone digressions which unceremoniously take centre stage in several passages.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eDelivering a difficult balance between order and turbulence, there is no doubt that, ultimately, we can identify in the background a whole arsenal of styles inherited from the Brazilian music tradition, converted here into basic units of a delicate game of permutation, which also clearly answers to the sensation of familiarity that the whole piece produces, similar to that of contemplating a known place from a strange angle or vice versa. Digging unexpected secret passages within the most diverse styles and scenes, from Minimalism to Tom Jobim, from Milton Nascimento to the best of Post-Rock, the success of this equation depends heavily on the close affinity between the musicians involved, whose strength is felt, above all, in how they tactfully dissimulate the difficulty and complexity of their broad repertoire of tricks to produce a tenuous, indiscernible zone between the improvised and the written, between event and structure. Digging unexpected secret passages within the most diverse styles and scenes, from Minimalism to Tom Jobim, from Milton Nascimento to the best of Post-Rock, the success of this equation depends heavily on the close affinity between the musicians involved, whose strength is felt, above all, in how they tactfully dissimulate the difficulty and complexity of their broad repertoire of tricks to produce a tenuous, indiscernible zone between the improvised and the written, between event and structure.
