The remnants of folk guitar bring to mind simpler times. Though the subject matter is serious, the music is never cynical. In the face of social isolation, Christophe has produced an incredibly human work. I don’t know when it was taken, probably over a decade ago, but that field and the dirt road look just how I remember them as a kid. I keep thinking about that place, and how far it feels from everything in my life now. While writing and recording this album, I moved back home after the dissolution of a 3-year relationship, graduated from college, and moved again. Many things changed, fell apart, and were rebuilt.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis is the first thing I’ve recorded that doesn’t feel retrospective or past-oriented. The oldest songs on this album fill out the first half, written in the summer and winter of 2019, when things still felt normal. The latter half, however, was born from the strenuous circumstances of this year as I adjusted to a startlingly different world, both personally and at large. This feels like a transitional time, and in the face of such uncertainty we often look for an escape. That’s what this album did for me. It allowed me to get away from everything when nothing else worked. It got me through a really rough time, and honestly, in that sense its job is already over. Now I hope maybe it can do the same for you. I don’t know when it was taken, probably over a decade ago, but that field and the dirt road look just how I remember them as a kid. I keep thinking about that place, and how far it feels from everything in my life now. While writing and recording this album, I moved back home after the dissolution of a 3-year relationship, graduated from college, and moved again. Many things changed, fell apart, and were rebuilt.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThis is the first thing I’ve recorded that doesn’t feel retrospective or past-oriented. The oldest songs on this album fill out the first half, written in the summer and winter of 2019, when things still felt normal. The latter half, however, was born from the strenuous circumstances of this year as I adjusted to a startlingly different world, both personally and at large. This feels like a transitional time, and in the face of such uncertainty we often look for an escape. That’s what this album did for me. It allowed me to get away from everything when nothing else worked. It got me through a really rough time, and honestly, in that sense its job is already over. Now I hope maybe it can do the same for you. As the early effects of covid-19 plagued the citizens of New York City, Douglas \u0026amp; Younger did as we were all ordered to do — shelter-in-place. From their apartment in Harlem, their reflex as players and community-builders was immediate. Broadcasting via social media and spreading the word to friends and family, the duo hosted “Force Majeure: Brunch in the Crib with Brandee \u0026amp; Dezron,” a Friday morning live stream where they performed songs, said “hi” to friends tuning in, and passed a digital tip jar.
