Edition of 30.

Artist statement by Simon Whetham:

"A liquid cooling system was removed from a discarded computer tower found in the street in Marseille, France and investigated for its sonic potential as a live performance instrument.

An Arduino programme was developed to cause the pump motors to activate sporadically and then run at a constant speed for a time. Parts of the system were amplified using contact microphones and small cardioid capsules to hear the different details and characteristics of each. Each microphone then fed into Ableton Live where automated envelopes changed the volume levels, equalisation and added some subtle plugin effects to alter the sounds.
The computer became the performer, altering the live signals in real time.

A cassette release was the natural choice of format for the release, itself being a kind of closed system."
