"Stone Musicが、野外即興演奏への深く忍耐強い旅『Into the Cosmic Forest』で帰ってきた。このグループは、伝説的なタージマハル旅行団の中心メンバーである長谷川によって2022年に結成され、日本のアンビエントや実験音楽シーンから幅広いミュージシャンたちを集めている。

名前は新しくなったが、その精神は受け継がれている。 Stone Musicは、タージマハル旅行団を特徴づけた、フリーフォームでその場に応じたアプローチを継承している――固定された構造ではなく、環境、時間、そして集団的意識によって形作られる音楽だ。

『Into the Cosmic Forest』は、それぞれ20分を超える2つの長編楽曲で構成されており、いずれも屋外でのライブ録音だ。A面は日本のオフトーン・フェスティバルで収録された。楽曲はゆっくりと有機的に展開していく――声、弦楽器、エレクトロニクス、管楽器、そして打楽器的なテクスチャーが層を成し、徐々に変化し続ける音の風景を形作っていく。

B面は、新潟の山間にあるミティラ美術館 の敷地内で録音された。ここは長谷川自身が運営するアートスペースだ。より親密な雰囲気でありながら、同様に没入感のあるこの楽曲は、声と繊細な相互作用を中心に据え、空間と沈黙を楽曲の一部として取り込んでいる。

聴こえてくる音は、ありのままの、磨きのかかっていないものだ。空気が動き、音が共鳴し、ミュージシャンたちが互いに、そして周囲の環境にリアルタイムで反応している。

2023年から24年にかけてインド をツアーし、国立博物館や大学で公演を行った後、Stone Musicは、音楽を「見せ物」ではなく「共有される空間」として探求し続けている。

"Stone Music returns with Into the Cosmic Forest, a deep and patient journey into open-air improvisation. The group was founded in 2022 by Tokio Hasegawa, a core member of the legendary Taj Mahal Travellers, and brings together a wide circle of musicians from Japan’s ambient and experimental scenes.

While the name is new, the spirit continues. Stone Music extends the free-form, site-responsive approach that defined Taj Mahal Travellers — music shaped by environment, duration, and collective awareness rather than fixed structure.

Into the Cosmic Forest consists of two long-form pieces, each exceeding 20 minutes, both recorded live outdoors. Side A was captured at Japan’s Off-Tone Festival. It unfolds slowly and organically — layers of voice, strings, electronics, wind instruments, and percussive textures gradually forming a shifting sonic landscape.

Side B was recorded on the grounds of Mithila Museum in the mountains of Niigata, an art space managed by Hasegawa himself. More intimate in atmosphere yet equally immersive, the piece centers on voice and subtle interplay, allowing space and silence to become part of the composition.

What you hear is direct and unpolished: air moving, sound resonating, musicians responding to each other and to their surroundings in real time.

Following tours in India during 2023–24, with performances in national museums and universities, Stone Music continues to explore music as shared space rather than spectacle.

Into the Cosmic Forest invites listeners into that space — unedited, unhurried, and fully alive."
