Coherent States:

"In a forthright response to the always speculative query, "Which musicians would you like to see collaborate", Coherent States proudly presents the "Na boca do Alvanel" album by David Maranha and Stefano Pilia. Delving deeper, "and why?" becomes clear: Stefano’s extended guitar manipulation and David’s ethereal violin, flute & organ textures combine to create some richly layered and tape-loop-incorporated hallucinatory pieces of haunting minimalist drone music. "Na boca do Alvanel" (portuguese for "At the mouth of the aqueduct canal") was recorded in Lisbon in September 2022 and comprises six tracks that masterfully blend some intense and sharp organic soundscapes, transporting the listener into a timeless realm devoid of beginnings and ends; A long, droning vortex of electrified organic and tape manipulation, stretching the ultimate climax into infinity.

David Maranha is a Portuguese musician and sound artist renowned for his innovative approach to experimental music. By blending drone, improvisation, and acoustic exploration, Maranha creates immersive soundscapes that challenge traditional notions of music. His work often incorporates unconventional instruments, field recordings, and digital processing to evoke a wide range of emotions and provoke thought. He has collaborated with many artists, among which Z'EV, David Grubbs, Chris Corsano, Richard Youngs, and his works have been released by Sonoris, Entr'acte, Bocian and STELLAGE, to name a few.

Stefano Pilia is a Bologna-based guitarist and composer. Pilia explores the sculptural properties of sound and its temporal and spatial dimensions through instrumental practice, innovative recording and production techniques. He is a member of various groups, including 3/4HadBeenEliminated, il Sogno del Marinaio and Spiralis Aurea. The latter trio, featuring Alessandra Novaga and Adrian Utley (Portishead), is dedicated to exploring the contemporary spirit of his work with the same name, released on Die Schachtel in 2022. Pilia has collaborated with numerous musicians within the experimental and avant-rock spectrum. His work has been released by a wide range of renowned labels. This marks his second collaboration with Coherent States. The first, “Glimpses of a Day,” was a cassette recorded with Alessandra Novaga in 2017 and released in 2021."
