Imaginary North:
"Imaginary North welcomes French artist Ghost In The Loop (aka Aurélien Buiron) to the label with his newest album Selected Soundtracks for Lost Media, a journey through time and tone that begins with an unattributed photograph. Across twelve tracks, he builds a narrative around the notions of what happens to art when nobody knows where it came from. With a focus on analog equipment, Buiron leans into the happy accidents and textures that help us explore the idea of memories."

From the artist, Ghost In The Loop aka Aurélien Buiron :
"Selected Soundtracks For Lost Media is a concept album that began in 2022, shortly after the release of my first album, Music For Liminal Spaces. The inspiration struck when I discovered a mysterious photograph in my grandparents’ attic—a black-and-white image, slightly faded by time, showing a rock band performing on stage. The musicians’ faces are blurred, as if erased by the passage of years, giving an eerie sense of evanescence.
This photo is a true anomaly in my family. As far back as we can trace, no one has ever been a musician, nor even particularly interested in rock music. I asked friends of the family, hoping someone might recognize the band or tell us where and when the photo was taken, but no one could provide answers. This image seems to belong to no memory, no place, no known photographer. How it ended up in my grandparents’ attic is a complete mystery. It’s a genuine piece of lost media.
This discovery was a true catalyst. The thought of an obscure, almost ghostly family memory compelled me to explore this enigma through music. Inspired by this photograph, which seems to exist between two realities, I wanted to create an album that embodies its mystery. Thus was born Selected Soundtracks For Lost Media, an extension of the hazy, liminal aesthetic of Music For Liminal Spaces, but with a theme that is both new and yet somehow connected to the first album.
Each track is crafted as an echo from the past, evoking blurred and faded memories filled with nostalgia. I recorded live on a Revox A77 tape recorder, incorporating vintage tape devices like the Tascam Portastudio 424, portable tape player, tape loops and the Roland Space Echo Re-201 to recreate an atmosphere from another time. These devices added sonic imperfections, silences, and loops, creating a sense of fragility and impermanence, as if each piece was a fragment of existence suspended between presence and disappearance. The album invites listeners to discover these tracks as if they were lost sound archives from a bygone era, capturing moments of life now faded, elusive like the faces of the unknown musicians in the photograph.
Selected Soundtracks For Lost Media is conceived as a tribute to the unknown, an exploration of erased memories and moments suspended between memory and oblivion—a hazy, intimate journey into the forgotten echoes of another world."
