"'There is a peculiar intimacy to Kasveille ja eläimille, a quiet invocation that feels as though it was never meant to be recorded, only discovered. Originally released in 2023 and now presented again in a new edition by Ultraääni Records, this LP marks Juho Toivonen’s first solo vinyl offering—a document of raw, searching gestures, improvised repetitions, and moments where decay is as significant as the sound itself.

The title, translated as For Plants and Animals, hints at an intent beyond human listeners. The compositions, built on untuned piano, sustained synthesizers, and fragments of field recordings, exist in a liminal space where time moves in uncertain patterns. Each note—hammered, decayed, left to fade into its own absence—becomes a quiet act of devotion, an offering to something larger than the self.

Toivonen, a Pori-based composer working at the intersections of ambient minimalism and raw sonic experimentation, approaches sound with a deep sensitivity to place and process. Kasveille ja eläimille reflects this ethos: an unforced meditation that remains open-ended, mirroring the cyclical and fragile nature of the living world it addresses. The five pieces here—Kasveille, Siskoille, Eläimille, Hyönteisille, Liskoille—read like dedications, each unfolding with its own distinct gravity.
