"Italian producer GSQ returns with Gelatology, a sample-based beat tape rooted in crate digging culture.
The project also marks the launch of Gelatology, a new sub-catalog of Quattro Bambole Records — a series dedicated to sample-driven releases pressed in strictly limited runs. Gelatology is at the same time the name of this new imprint and the title of its first release, setting the tone for what will become an ongoing sequence of records entirely devoted to crate digging, sampling practice, and vinyl archaeology.
Behind the project is Francesco Fisotti, a long-time DJ and record digger, as well as the owner of Gelateria Fisotti, a well-known gelateria in Otranto, Italy. With the alias GSQ (pronounced “Jis-Koo”), he merges these two worlds into a singular narrative: Gelatology imagines a surreal universe populated by bizarre creatures, unknown species, and unexplained laws of nature — where mysterious monuments and totems dedicated to gelato are scattered across the landscape, their meaning lost in time.
Musically, the record is an archaeological exploration of sound, drawing from jazz-funk, soul, prog rock, and world music, all sampled from vinyl and sequenced on an Akai MPC. The physical release plays a central role in the project. Alongside the standard edition, a small run of one-of-a-kind copies features handmade collage covers built from original vintage record sleeves — each piece unique, extending the sampling process into a visual dimension. The release will be available exclusively on vinyl, with no streaming distribution.
Founded in Apulia, Italy, Quattro Bambole Records is an independent label inspired by the cinematic and library music universe of Piero Umiliani. Across 26 releases, the label has explored a wide spectrum of underground sounds — from instrumental hip hop and jazz-funk to balearic, house, soundtrack-inspired music and leftfields electronics — building an eclectic catalog distributed internationally through selected vinyl channels. "
