First released on September 6, 2006, the eight-track album established a musical language that Sullivan would continue to explore and refine for the next two decades: slowly unfolding electronics, treated guitar, soft rhythmic movement and melody shaped less by conventional structure than by memory, atmosphere and emotional association.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e\u003cem\u003eWhat is perhaps most striking about the album now is how little it feels attached to 2006. There are recognizable traces of the period, particularly in its intersection of ambient music, post-rock and understated electronic production, but The Sound Of Lights When Dim has never depended on those associations. Its strength lies instead in Sullivan’s restraint. Sounds arrive, linger and disappear without being forced toward a climax.
