The resulting structure bears a filmic pace that rewards the experience of focused listening in a single sitting, in the tradition of avowed touchstones like Selected Ambient Works Volume II or Global Communication’s 76:14. These spectral sounds exist between the murky shadows of the past and the telescopic gaze of the future, where melancholy, guarded optimism is transmitted by imperfect machines.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe shimmering keys of opening track, “Microlith 1”, pour across the stereo field like warm rainfall, setting a vivid scene and demonstrating how much the trio can convey in the span of only a few breaths. “Momentary Drift 1” follows with overlapping, kinetic melodies and a backdrop of dense reverb that eases in like a fog across an airfield, while Clements’ bass tones provide subwoofer-friendly ballast deep below the surface.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eAcross the first half of the album, there is a divide between place and placelessness: forlorn, alien signals arrive from a million light years away (“Microlith 2”), vaporous harmonies echo through liminal spaces (“Momentary Drift 3”), and dappled dayglow emerges through tape-saturated mist (“Momentary Drift 5”).
