"『Percussions』は、Saint Tropez Orchestraの4枚目のアルバムだ。
タイトルが示す通り、このアルバムはパーカッションに重点が置かれており、全20曲のほとんどで多種多様な打楽器がフィーチャーされている。なぜか？　バンドリーダーがパーカッショニストだからだ！
ライブラリーミュージックの愛好家、サウンドトラック通、そしてもちろんブレイクスのディガーたちにとって、ここには宝物が山ほど詰まっている。アルバム全体として、狂気じみたヴィンテージ・サウンドトラックのような雰囲気があり、それはバンドが各トラックの録音にアナログ・テープレコーダー2台を使用し、山積みのパーカッションに加え、お馴染みのオルガン、ワウワウ・ギター、クラビネット、シンセサイザー、フルート、ツィター、そして超ファンキーなベースをふんだんに盛り込んだことが一因だ。
曲名やジャケットのテキストがスペイン語なのはなぜかと言うと――その理由の一つは、バンドリーダーが子供の頃、プエルトヤノにしばらく住んでいたからだが、もう一つは、バルセロナ生まれのレコーディング・エンジニア、サラへのオマージュでもある。彼女はレコーディング中に椅子から落ちて腕を骨折してしまったのだ！ しかし彼女は超タフで、アルバムのレコーディングが終わるまで腕が折れていることさえ気づかなかった。サラ、お大事に。

"As the title suggests, the accent is firmly on percussion, with most of the 20 tracks featuring a wide array of percussion instruments. Why? The band leader is a percussionist, that’s why!

There’s plenty of nuggets here for the library music heads, the soundtracks aficionados, and of course the breaks diggers. As a whole, the album has a crazed vintage soundtrack feel, helped by the band using a pair of analog tape recorders to capture each track, surrounded by piles of percussion along with the usual organs, wah-wah guitars, clavinet, synthesizers, flutes, zithers, and super funky bass.

If you’re wondering why the song titles and sleeve text are in Spanish - partially it’s because the band leader lived in Puertollano for a while as a kid, but also it’s a tribute to the Barcelona-born recording engineer, Sara, who fell off her chair during the sessions and broke her arm! But she is super tuff and didn’t even realise it was broken until after the album was recorded. Get well soon, Sara. x
