"レコードを再生しよう。『Mistress 18』と『Mistress 18.5』は、ダンスミュージックの多様なアイデンティティを喜びをもって称える作品だ。同時リリースされたこれらのレコードは、ドナート・バジレの2つの別名「Dona」と「DJ Plant Texture」をそれぞれフィーチャーし、リズミカルなマシンのグルーヴと卓越したMPCワークを融合させながら、互いに競い合うような展開を見せている。

『Mistress 18』は「Please」で幕を開ける。ほこりっぽいモータウン・シティの煙が立ち込めるようなこの曲は、デトロイトの伝説J・ディラへの、上品でありながら明白なオマージュだ。「The Beat」と「Maladcà」（プーリア方言で「めちゃくちゃクール」を意味する）は、ハウス音楽のソウルフルでディープな側面を披露する。「Dopamine Way」がスピーカーから響き渡ると、90年代を彷彿とさせるヒップホップのインターリュードが始まり、レコード盤でのスクラッチバトルを誘う。「Emotions」は、ディスコのきらめきをまとったハウスへと聴き手を誘い、差し込む朝日を歓迎するダンスフロア・トラックだ。B面の「Avoiding The Bro Game」と「Shadows (Meditation Mix)」は、踏み鳴らすようなファンク・ドライブのテクノを届ける。

"Cue the record: "Music, Please." Mistress 18 and Mistress 18.5 are a joyful celebration of dance music’s diverse identities. Pressed in tandem, each record draws upon Donato Basile’s dual aliases, Dona vs. DJ Plant Texture, to go head-to-head, blending rhythmic machine grooves and masterful MPC work.

Mistress 18 emerges with "Please", a dust-filled, Motown City smoker and tastefully obvious ode to Detroit legend J Dilla. "The Beat" and "Maladcà" (Puglia-slang meaning “crazy cool”) welcome the soulful and deeper side of house. As “Dopamine Way” vibrates through the speakers, a 90s-inspired hip hop interlude begins to play, begging for a scratch battle on wax. “Emotions” takes us to disco-glittered-house, a dancefloor track to welcome the upcoming rays of sun. Side B’s "Avoiding The Bro Game" and "Shadows (Meditation Mix)", bring stomping, funk-driven techno.

To evolve dance music’s sound, the greats often recount digging through their parents’ soul, disco, and jazz records, reworking and sampling them until a new groove was born; so too in this method does Donato pull from his diverse musical influences to bring us his own beat; one that balances nostalgia and futurism.
