Harri Kuusijärvi’のエレクトロニック・アコーディオンは、ある時はサイボーグの鳥の群れのさえずりのように、またある時は電池が切れかけたブライアン・イーノの電気歯ブラシのように響く。デュオのもう一方、Tatu Rönkköはドラムセットを自在に操り、洗練された断片的なリズムから、激しく強烈な地殻変動のようなリズムへと移り変わる。

"Kuusijärvi/Rönkkö launches the concept of accordion jazz into orbit with their album Aika ja tila (Time and Space). Built entirely on improvisation, this six-track collection stretches both musical genre boundaries and the very fabric of spacetime.

Harri Kuusijärvi’s electronic accordion sounds at times like the chirping of a cyborg bird flock, and at others like Brian Eno’s electric toothbrush just as the batteries are dying. The other half of the duo, Tatu Rönkkö, weaves through his drum kit, moving from sophisticated, broken rhythms to fiercely intense, tectonic shifting.

Born from improvisation in the midst of the northern Midnight Sun, the album is a document of two musicians in a moment where the shackles of genre have been broken. Aika ja tila takes the listener on a journey through shifting musical landscapes that captivate the ear and liberate the imagination."

But instead of light, Arvola found complexity. The songs were written in chronological order, with side A threading luscious string motifs, and side B spiralling into more otherworldly, unstable terrain.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eAmong the album’s more experimental tools are the daxophone and a dual looper called Cocoquantus, used to process textures in tandem with his modular synthesizer. In post-production, certain sections were dubbed to tape and reworked into loops on a reel-to-reel recorder, allowing them to unravel and decay.\u003c\/em\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cbr\u003e\u003cem\u003eThe album’s cover shows Arvola and members of his family\u003cspan class=\"bcTruncateMore\"\u003e entering a cave dwelling late at night somewhere in Cyprus in the early 1990s. The title — Silmät sulaa, or “Eyes melt” — was inspired by a pair of Trolli candy eyeballs bought during a sweltering visit to Genoa’s Cimitero Monumentale di Staglieno.
