Debut collaboration from two legends of the NZ (Peter Wright) & US (Howard Stelzer) underground experimental/electronic scene(s).
Artist statement by H. Stelzer:
"I've been a long-time fan of Peter's lush, pastoral drone music (think Vini Reilly meets Terry Riley, perhaps?) since his early CDR releases on labels such as Celebrate Psi Phenomena, PseudoArcana & Last Visible Dog et al. back in the early 2000's... I even performed a few shows in the US with Peter and Antony Milton, when they came to New England for a short tour, over a decade ago now. Nice guys. The three of us recorded some jams in my living room back then, but nothing great... I ended up chopping it up and using 'em as source sounds, though I don't recall where it all ended up.
I remember one concert we did at the 'Ecstatic Yod' store in Western Massachusetts, where Peter was excited to find & buy a copy of the classic Plagal Grind record(!!!*) - Kinda thought everyone in NZ owned that already ..S'pose not!
Peter and I had been in touch for awhile since then and had broached th' idea of making a proper album together... and finally, th' stars aligned and it happened. We began before Covid-19, but certainly being stuck inside hastened its completion. I'm sure lots of albums were made in March/April/May of this year, for th' same grim reason...
'Utsuro-bune' is our first composition together, named after a place where extra-dimensional citizens have [supposedly] torn through the thin veil of space/time to visit us. This seems to've happened more than once, though mainly in airports, hotels & once on a beach.
Yeah.. It's "true"! - Peter and I crossed space and time to make this music, but only because we live in opposite hemispheres. Though perhaps we do live in different dimensions now... sometimes it feels that way... "
