Cacophonous Revival Recordings:
" Cacophonous Revival is proud to present another strong entry into our growing jazz influenced catalog. Diminished Borders by Samuel Goff, Camila Nebbia and Patrick Shiroishi presents a powerful drums/sax/sax trio that provides a wide spectrum of diverging moods and genres. Contained within the 8 pieces are styles ranging from chaotic free jazz to introspective and almost tender pieces where Nebbia and Shiroishi articulate a deep and emotional framework to carry the listener into melancholic dreams. These tender songs buffer some of the more atonal, avant garde selections. There is also an almost playful piece where Nebbia and Shiroishi lay down some beautiful solos over Goff’s polyrhythmic drumming. This is in stark contrast with the chaotic spazz jazz toward the end of the album.
“Diminished Borders” was recorded at vastly different parts of the world or across borders with musicians with divergent backgrounds. Recorded in Richmond, VA, Lyon, France and Los Angeles, CA. the three musicians here have long been entrenched in the experimental and jazz underground music scene and this album shows the strength in both unity and individual performances of that experience. Also the album is loosely based on “Spit Temple” by Chilean poet Cecilia Vicuña who wrote often about borders having crossed many herself. Borders mean so much in this world. The piece of land you currently stand on dictates the fate of your life. Crossing borders oftentimes means life or death. We would like to see the importance of borders….”diminished.” "
